Men's Basketball Overpowered by Second Half Run By LIU

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Feb. 7, 2026) – The Stonehill men's basketball team was tripped up in the second half as they fell to LIU, 61-54, on the road, late Saturday afternoon.
 
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
  • Junior guard Davante Hackett led the Skyhawks with 10 points off the bench.
  • Junior center Ridvan Tuitc came one point shy of his fifth double-double, tallying 10 rebounds and nine points.
  • Senior guard Chas Stinson also notched nine points, while registering three blocks.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a physical, low-scoring affair from the opening tip but once the dust settled, the Skyhawks began to take flight. After breaking down the Shark defense to open up the offensive game, Stonehill played lights out defense to that stifled the potent LIU offense.
 
Senior guard Chas Stinson ripped down a defensive board and connected with graduate student Raymond Espinal-Guzman at the other as the Skyhawks took a three-point lead into the second media timeout.
 
Espinal-Guzman capped a off a strong first half by the Skyhawks with a put back lay-up in the waning seconds to take a 29-26 lead into the locker room.
 
The intensity remained high at the start of the second half. Junior center Ridvan Tutic got into the action, muscling his way to two points to extend the Skyhawk lead to five at the start of the second half.
 
 
Momentum favored the Skyhawks early on, the game began to shift in the director of the Sharks. LIU unleashed a 10-0 midway through the second half to take a 42-39, lead. Stinson snapped the three-minute scoring draught with a driving lay-up. 
 
 
The Skyhawks tried valiantly to power their way back into the game, but were unable to keep pace with the powerful offense of LIU.
