How It Happened
Stonehill came out of the gates strong, outshooting Franklin Pierce 14–5 over the opening 20 minutes of play. The Skyhawks generated sustained offensive-zone pressure with multiple scrambles in front of the Ravens' crease, looking to break through in the opening frame. However, Jill Hertl turned aside every opportunity Stonehill threw her way, keeping the game scoreless heading into the first intermission.
Franklin Pierce struck quickly in the second period, opening a three-goal lead over the first 12 minutes. Caleigh Murphy got the Ravens on the board at the 5:18 mark before McKenzie Rich and Sydnee Wilson buried their respective first goals of the season just 72 seconds apart at 10:05 and 11:17.
Coming out of a media timeout with an offensive-zone faceoff at 12:20, Walkom won the draw back to Sacca, who walked the blue line and fired a shot from the point through traffic and past Hertl for her first collegiate goal, trimming the Skyhawks' deficit to two.
After Stonehill cut the deficit to two heading into the final frame, Franklin Pierce regained momentum by tacking on two goals at 5:05 and 5:44 of the third period to open a four-goal advantage with 14 minutes remaining. Despite Whynot scoring with 0.8 seconds left, the deficit proved too much to overcome as the Skyhawks fell, 5–2.
