CUMBERLAND, R.I. (March 11, 2026) – The Stonehill College women's tennis team fell to NEC opponent New Haven, 5–2, Wednesday afternoon at the Forecourt Tennis Center. With the loss, the Skyhawks dropped to 2–8 overall and 2–1 in conference play, while the Chargers improved to 6–3 overall and 2–0 against conference opponents.
Stonehill secured the doubles point following back-to-back wins at No. 3 and No. 1 doubles. Senior
Anneliese Beltran and first-year
Iliana deArmas opened competition with a 6–2 victory over Leni Bishof and Sofia Lazaro. Seniors
Julie Holte and
Madison Warren then clinched the point for the Skyhawks with a 7–5 win over Victoria Togores and Pierina Lescher at No. 1 doubles.
The Skyhawks narrowly missed a sweep in doubles play as sophomores
Arya Chabria and
Lilah Shallcross fell 7–5 at No. 2 doubles to Valentinna Ferrarini and Addison Rosser.
New Haven responded strongly in singles competition. Togores defeated Warren at No. 2 singles, 6–1, 6–1, to open singles play. Back-to-back three-set matches followed on the third and fourth courts. At No. 3 singles, Shallcross dropped a tight match, 4–6, 6–4, 4–6, while Chabria fell in three sets at No. 4 singles to Lazaro, 4–6, 6–1, 4–6.
Holte recorded an individual double victory on the day, defeating Ferrarini in three sets at No. 1 singles, 5–7, 6–1, 6–1.
Despite hard-fought efforts at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, Beltran and deArmas came up short against Rosser and Bishof, respectively, as New Haven secured the 5–2 match victory.
