Women’s Lacrosse Rolls to 20-6 Victory Over Delaware State

EASTON, Mass. (March 21, 2026) – The Stonehill women's lacrosse team collected its first NEC win over the season, topping Delaware State by a score of 20-6 at W.B. Mason Stadium Saturday afternoon.

The victory improves Stonehill to 4-6 overall (1-1 NEC), while the Hornets move to 0-9 (0-2 NEC).


STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Neave Bowman scored two goals and handed out a career-best four assists for a career-high six points.

  • Sophia Gouveia tallied a career-best four goals and added eight draw controls.
     
  • Taylor Green had the first hat trick of her career, scoring three times in a four-point effort. Caitlin Ruggiero also registered a hat trick.
     
  • Val Beigel and Cameron Flaherty both netted two goals. Beigel also had five draw controls.
     
  • Nina Tremonte recorded three saves between the pipes.
     
  • Stonehill was 14-of-15 on clear attempts and held advantages in shots, 45-12, shots on goal, 24-7, ground balls, 27-9, and draw controls, 19-8.


HOW IT HAPPENED:
Stonehill jumped out to a 4-0 lead less than six minutes into the game. Caitlin Ruggiero got the scoring going at 11:54, followed by Grace Murphy's tally at 11:32 to make it 2-0. Neave Bowman then netted back-to-back scores at 10:44 and 9:36 to give the Skyhawks a 4-0 edge. Later in the first, Ruggiero scored again at 7:03, and Taylor Green followed with a player-up goal at 3:39, 6-0.

In the second, Sophia Gouveia scored her first of the day at 12:26, while Val Beigel (9:33), Meaghan Fealy (8:42) and Gouveia (7:37) also found the back of the net, as the Skyhawks upped its lead to 10-2.

Stonehill carried a 10-3 lead into the second half, and then Olivia Powers (13:46), Green (11:54 and 10:03) and Ruggiero (9:07) gave the Skyhawks a 10-goal advantage, 14-4, midway through the third.
Later in the third, Gouveia (6:30) made it 15-4, before Beigel tallied a goal early in the fourth at 14:32 to stretch it to 16-4. In the final frame, Gouveia (11:18), Cameron Flaherty (9:39 and 5:19) and Abby Hanifin (0:30 capped the scoring on the day.

Stonehill (4-6, 1-1 NEC) will remain at W.B. Mason Stadium and host Central Connecticut State (0-8, 0-2 NEC) on Wednesday, March 25 at 3 p.m.
