Romero Hits First Career Home Run as Baseball Silences Brown, 6-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (March 24, 2026) – The Stonehill College baseball team silenced Brown University with a 6-0 shutout victory in Tuesday afternoon's midweek matchup at Murray Stadium. With the result, the Skyhawks improved to 7-13 overall, while the Bears dropped to 7-11.

Highlights
  • The Skyhawks pitching staff of sophomores Dan Lang, Hunter Bell, Alex Cook, and Noah Basgaard combined to shut out Brown, limiting the Bears to just four hits while striking out 10 in the midweek contest.
  • Lang earned his first career win, tossing 5.0 scoreless innings and recording a career-high five strikeouts.
  • Freshman Armanis Romero led the Skyhawks offensively, blasting his first collegiate home run and finishing 2-for-4 at the plate.
  • Freshman Tyler Redden notched his first collegiate hit, while juniors Ryan LeClair and Nathan Kearney extended their on-base streaks to 15 and 12 games, respectively.
  • Senior Michael Rickert powered the offense, driving in three of Stonehill's six runs. He has now recorded at least one RBI in eight straight games, including multiple RBI in five consecutive contests.
  • Graduate student Sam Parks extended both his hitting and on-base streaks to 14 games, going 1-for-1 with two runs scored and four walks.

How It Happened
After two scoreless innings on both sides, Stonehill broke through in the top of the third, plating a pair of runs. Redden reached on a fielding error by Brown's third baseman, and Parks followed with a single to center. Rickert then stepped in and lined a two-run single into the right-center gap, scoring both runners and giving the Skyhawks a 2-0 lead.

Stonehill extended its advantage to four in the fourth with one swing of the bat. Junior Nick Lundquist singled up the middle to put a runner on before Romero launched a two-strike home run over the left-field wall — the first of his collegiate career — to make it 4-0.

While Lang continued to stifle the Brown lineup in his fifth and final inning of work, Rickert added to the lead in the sixth with a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Romero and pushing the advantage to 5-0.

Following back-to-back scoreless innings from Bell, Cook would work out of a jam with a Brown runner just 90 feet away in the eighth, recording his second strikeout of the frame to preserve the shutout.

After Kearney drew a bases-loaded walk in the ninth to extend the lead, Basgaard took the mound in the bottom half looking to finish it off. The sophomore struck out the first two batters before a pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases for Brown. Basgaard, however, induced a flyout to right off the bat of Christian Butera to seal the 6-0 shutout victory — Stonehill's first-ever win over Brown.
