How It Happened
Stonehill wasted little time opening the scoring, as the Skyhawks grabbed a 1-0 lead after the first inning. Parks led off by working a full-count walk and advanced to third two batters later on a single to right-center by LeClair. After LeClair stole second, Kearney brought Parks home with a dribbler back to the pitcher to give Stonehill the early edge.
Central Connecticut State answered in the top of the second, tying the game at one when Gabe Tanous drew a bases-loaded walk to score Chris Barkasy, who had opened the inning with a four-pitch walk.
Following the early runs, Gilleran and Kyle Salvati settled into a pitcher's duel, combining for 14 strikeouts over 10.1 innings before both exited in the sixth.
Stonehill broke the deadlock in the bottom of the seventh, erupting for four runs. A bases-loaded walk by Kearney brought Morrison home, before a balk allowed senior
Michael Rickert to score. Chin then delivered a two-run groundout, plating both LeClair and Kearney to extend the lead to 5-1 heading into the eighth.
After a scoreless eighth, the Blue Devils threatened in the ninth, scoring two runs on a pair of hits, a walk, and a hit-by-pitch against sophomore
Noah Basgaard. However, the Skyhawks' lead held firm, securing the 5-3 victory in their home opener.
