How It Happened
Following a scoreless opening period in which Stonehill narrowly outshot Alaska Anchorage, 13–9, the Skyhawks broke through in the closing minutes of the second frame. Rafalski circled the offensive zone before finding Mexico at the point, whose shot slipped through the pads of goaltender Tyler Krivtsov. With the puck loose on the goal line, Hunter crashed the crease and pushed it across the line for his third goal of the season—marking the first goal in the history of the United Collegiate Hockey Cup.
Carrying a 1–0 lead into the third period, Alaska Anchorage pushed for the equalizer, generating seven shot attempts to Stonehill's two over the opening eight minutes of the final frame. Despite the sustained pressure, Androlewicz and the Skyhawks' defense held firm to preserve the one-goal advantage.
Stonehill doubled its lead at the 11:04 mark of the period after a turnover in the Seawolves' defensive zone. Galante sent the puck down low to Posma, who delivered a quick feed to Chambers in the slot. Chambers blasted a one-timer over Krivtsov's shoulder to extend the lead to 2–0, tallying his third goal of the season.
Following the goal, Alaska Anchorage received its second power-play opportunity of the game. However, the Skyhawks' penalty kill unit stood tall, allowing just one shot on goal during the two-minute man advantage.
The Seawolves pulled their goaltender with 3:55 remaining in regulation in search of a late comeback. With just over two minutes left, Renfrew won a board battle and sent a pass ahead to Melady, who fired a shot from the neutral zone into the empty net to cap the scoring and secure the 3–0 shutout victory for Stonehill.
