Women's Tennis Prevails in 4-3 Nail-Biter Against LIU

PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. (April 2, 2026) – The Stonehill College women's tennis team secured a hard-fought 4-3 victory over NEC opponent Long Island University on Tuesday night. With the win, the Skyhawks improve to 3-9 overall and 3-2 in conference play, while the Sharks fall to 3-6 overall and 2-2 in league action.

Stonehill claimed the doubles point with strong performances at the top two positions. Julie Holte and Madison Warren dominated at No. 1 doubles with a 6-0 victory over Emma Jane Barclay and Paula Guillen Cerver. Arya Chabria and Lilah Shallcross followed by clinching the point with a 6-1 win against Leena Kuittinen and Ksenia Reznitskaya at No. 2.

At No. 3 doubles, Anneliese Beltran and Iliana deArmas nearly completed the sweep, but LIU's Mia Tsoukalas and Mori Grylak held on for a 6-4 win.

In singles play, LIU responded by taking two of the first three matches to gain momentum. Tsoukalas defeated Warren 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2, while Cerver topped Shallcross 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3.

Chabria and Holte halted the Sharks' surge with back-to-back three-set victories. Chabria earned a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 win over Kuittinen at No. 4 to even the match at 2-2. Holte then gave Stonehill a 3-2 edge with a gritty 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 comeback win against Reznitskaya at the top spot.

LIU evened the score at three when Grylak defeated Beltran 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 at No. 5, setting up a decisive match at No. 6 singles. With the match on the line, deArmas delivered, rallying for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Barclay to clinch the 4-3 win for the Skyhawks.
