Douglas Goes the Distance as Baseball Rolls to 13-3 Victory Over Coppin State

EASTON, Mass. (April 25, 2026) – The Stonehill College baseball team cruised to a decisive 13-3 run-rule victory over Coppin State University in seven innings Saturday afternoon at Lou Gorman Field. With the win, the Skyhawks improved to 17-20 overall and 14-6 in NEC play, while the Eagles fell to 7-29 overall and 7-16 in league action.

Highlights
  • Stonehill totaled six stolen bases and was hit by five pitches, with the six steals matching a season-high.
  • Junior Nathan Kearney stayed hot at the plate, recording his sixth three-hit performance in his last seven games, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI.
  • Junior Ryan LeClair extended his team-best on-base streak to 32 games, finishing 1-for-3 with two runs scored, two RBI, and a hit-by-pitch.
  • Junior John Bureau matched LeClair with two RBI, while freshman Armanis Romero went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases.
  • Graduate student Ryan Douglas earned his third win of the season, tossing a complete-game 7.0 innings while allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk, striking out two.

How It Happened
Stonehill seized control early in game two, jumping out to a four-run lead in the first inning. Bureau got the scoring started with a two-run single, and a pair of wild pitches later in the frame brought home two more runs.

Coppin State chipped away with a run in the second and two more in the third to cut the deficit to 4-3. From there, Douglas and Dillon Kirksey settled in, keeping the score intact over the next three innings.

The Skyhawks broke the game open in the sixth, erupting for six runs. Back-to-back-to-back RBI singles from LeClair, Kearney, and senior Michael Rickert highlighted the inning, while defensive miscues also helped extend the rally.

Stonehill closed things out in the seventh, as a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch drawn by LeClair made it 11-3 before Kearney delivered a walk-off two-run single up the middle to seal the 13-3 run-rule victory.
