WEST HAVEN, Conn. (April 25, 2026) – Junior right-hander
Alex Sciarretto earned her fifth victory of the season tossing a complete game, three-hitter in game two as Stonehill softball swept Saturday afternoon's road doubleheader against New Haven.
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior Alexa Hospodar picked up her third victory of the season tossing a complete game allowing just two unearned runs, while scattering seven hits and striking out two in game one.
- Freshman Juli Murillo went 4-for-8 with a double, an RBI and run scored from the top of the Skyhawk lineup.
- Senior Jessica Brill was 3-for-8 with a double, two RBI and two stolen bases from the middle of the order.
GAME 1: STONEHILL 5, NEW HAVEN 2
It was a scoreless ballgame through the first three innings until the Skyhawks jumped on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth. With runners aboard, senior
Jessica Brill lined a two-run single into centerfield to plate pinch-runner
Luka Bornhorst and
Harper Sullivan.
Stonehill broke the game open scoring four runs in the fifth. Senior
Natalie Bottiglieri ignited the rally with a one-out double to left field then came in to score moments later on a base hit by freshman
Juli Murillo. The Skyhawks were not done.
After sophomore
Taylor Schoonmaker reached on single to left and advanced to second on the throw, the Skyhawks were threatening for more with a pair of runners in scoring position one out. Stonehill took advantage of a New Haven defensive miscue in the middle infield scoring twice before Brill capped off the scoring with a double to right center to plate Sullivan with the fifth Skyhawk run.
The Skyhawks weathered a sixth-inning Charger comeback attempt where they scored twice but junior
Alexa Hospodar slammed the door.
GAME 2: STONEHILL 6, NEW HAVEN 1
The Skyhawks carried its momentum from game one into game two. Freshman
Juliana Alicea gave Stonehill the 1-0 lead lifting a sacrifice fly to left field to bring home Sullivan with the game's first run.
It appeared as if it was all the Skyhawks would need as junior right-hander
Alex Sciarretto was dazzling in the circling taking a one-hitter into the sixth inning.
Stonehill gave its starting pitcher an extra run support in the fifth, pushing across three runs , behind back-to-back-to-back base hits by
Taylor Schoonmaker,
Sarah Taylor and
Harper Sullivanin the top of the fifth to extend the lead to four.
They added another two insurance runs an inning later, but it was more than enough for Sciarretto to claim her fifth victory of the season.
