NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (April 28, 2026) – The Stonehill College baseball team held off a late rally to defeat Merrimack College, 14-9, in a midweek non-conference matchup on the road. With the win, the Skyhawks improved to 18-21 overall, while the Warriors fell to 17-24 on the season.
Highlights
- Senior Michael Rickert paced the Skyhawks' offense, going 3-for-6 with a double, three runs scored, and three RBI.
- Juniors Jamison Howland and Nick Lundquist matched Rickert with three RBI each. Howland recorded two doubles, while Lundquist hit his third home run of the season.
- Graduate student Sam Parks turned in a strong performance, finishing 2-for-4 with a double, a hit-by-pitch, a walk, an RBI, and three runs scored.
- Junior Ryan LeClair extended his team-leading on-base streak to 34 games and recorded his first triple of the season, while classmate Nathan Kearney pushed his hitting and on-base streaks to 12 and 31 games, respectively.
- Sophomore Jack Welsch earned his second win of the season, tossing 2.2 innings of scoreless, hitless relief while striking out four.
How It Happened
Merrimack opened the scoring with three runs in the second inning, but Stonehill responded immediately and took control for good in the third. The Skyhawks plated four runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run triple from LeClair, an RBI single from Rickert, and an RBI double by Howland to take a 4-3 lead.
After a quiet stretch through the middle innings, Stonehill broke the game open in the sixth, erupting for seven runs on six hits. RBI singles from junior
John Bureau and Rickert, a two-run double from Howland, and a three-run homer by Lundquist powered the outburst and gave the Skyhawks a commanding 11-3 advantage.
Stonehill added three more runs in the seventh behind RBI doubles from Parks and Rickert, along with an RBI single from Kearney, extending the lead to 14-4.
Merrimack mounted a late rally over the final three innings, trimming the deficit, but the Skyhawks held on to secure the 14-9 midweek victory.
