Christopher Delivers Clutch Pinch-Hit to Lift Baseball to 7-5 Win at Delaware State

DOVER, Del. (April 3, 2026) – The Stonehill College baseball team earned a hard-fought, extra-inning 7-5 victory over NEC foe Delaware State on Friday evening. With the win, the Skyhawks improved to 11-14 overall and 9-2 in conference play, while the Hornets dropped to 2-25 overall and 2-12 in league action.

Highlights
  • Graduate student Sam Parks extended both his hitting and on-base streaks to 19 games, finishing 1-for-5 with a run scored, an RBI, and a walk.
  • Freshman Armanis Romero and junior Will Christopher fueled the offense, combining to drive in four of Stonehill's seven runs.
  • Juniors Ryan LeClair and Nathan Kearney pushed their on-base streaks to 20 and 19 games, respectively. LeClair recorded his seventh multi-hit game of the season, while Kearney tallied his fourth double.
  • Junior Cam Morrison led the team with three hits, while senior Michael Rickert drove in his team-leading 24th run of the season.
  • Senior Jimmy Gilleran delivered a strong start, tossing 7.0 innings and allowing just two unearned runs on four hits while striking out seven.
  • Sophomore Noah Basgaard earned the win, while classmate Josh Florence secured the save.

How It Happened
Stonehill wasted no time jumping out in front, opening the scoring with a run in the top of the first. Parks led off with an infield single, followed by a base hit from LeClair and a walk by junior Jamison Howland to load the bases. A passed ball allowed Parks to race home for the game's first run. However, Delaware State answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half to take an early lead.

The Skyhawks quickly responded in the second, tying the game at two when Morrison reached on a single and later scored on an RBI double by Rickert.

Stonehill regained the lead in the third, plating two runs. Kearney drew a leadoff walk and Howland followed with a single before Romero delivered a two-run single to center, giving the Skyhawks a 4-2 advantage.

After four scoreless innings, Stonehill added to its lead in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Parks, scoring freshman Kacin Robinson to make it 5-2. The Hornets, however, rallied in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at five.

Both teams were held scoreless in the ninth, and Stonehill threatened in the 10th with two runners in scoring position before a diving catch in center field robbed Parks of a go-ahead hit.

The Skyhawks broke through in the 11th, as Christopher delivered a clutch two-out, pinch-hit single with the bases loaded to score two and give Stonehill a 7-5 lead. Delaware State put two runners on in the bottom half, but Florence shut the door to secure the extra-inning victory for Stonehill.
