Baseball Unable to Slow Sharks in Series Finale

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (May 10, 2026) – The Stonehill College baseball team dropped its series finale to NEC rival Long Island University, 7-3, Sunday afternoon. With the result, the Skyhawks moved to 19-26 overall and 15-12 in conference play, while the Sharks improved to 25-18 overall and 24-6 in league action.

Highlights
  • Senior Michael Rickert recorded his team-leading 13th multi-RBI game of the season, increasing his season total to 51 RBI — the third-most, by a Skyhawk during Stonehill College's NCAA Division I era in a single season.
  • Graduate student Sam Parks and junior John Bureau extended their hitting streaks to five and 11 games, respectively.
  • Junior Ryan LeClair was hit by two pitches on the day, increasing his NCAA Division I single-season program record to 26 hit-by-pitches this season — a mark that ranks second in the NEC and fourth nationally.
  • Junior Nathan Kearney and LeClair extended their on-base streaks to 37 and 40 consecutive games, respectively.
  • Graduate student Ryan Douglas earned the start on the mound and allowed three runs across 5.0 innings while striking out two batters.
  • Sophomore Alex Cook tossed a scoreless inning of relief with one strikeout, marking his 11th scoreless appearance of the season.

How It Happened
Stonehill opened the scoring in the first inning when Bureau was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, bringing home a run on just one hit in the frame. Long Island University answered in the bottom of the third as Ryan Rivera delivered an RBI double to even the score at 1-1.

Two more runs in the home half of the fourth gave the Sharks their first lead of the series finale. Mike Polubinski led off the inning with a solo home run to center field before a delayed steal of home pushed the LIU advantage to 3-1 heading into the fifth.

In the fifth, Parks singled into shallow center before advancing into scoring position after LeClair was hit by a pitch for the second time on the afternoon. With the Skyhawks' leading run producer at the plate, Rickert ripped a two-run double off the wall in right-center field to score both Parks and LeClair and tie the game at three.

Despite evening the score in the fifth, the Skyhawks were unable to keep pace with the Sharks offensively down the stretch, as Stonehill fell in the series finale by a 7-3 final.
