SMITHFIELD, R.I. (September 13, 2026) - The Stonehill College women's tennis team opened its 2026-27 campaign with a strong showing at the Bryant University Invitational, competing against host Bryant University, Holy Cross and Providence College.
Junior Arya Chabria led the way with a perfect 3-0 record. Chabria earned a 7-5, 6-4 singles victory over Holy Cross freshman Alexa Clark before teaming with junior Piper Remillard for a 6-1 doubles win over Clark and Kiya Martin. Chabria later partnered with freshman Luciana Caputi Intriago to secure a 6-4 victory over Bryant's Nicole Isman and Laura Stypula.
Freshmen Isabel Solazzo and Neva Matos earned their first collegiate doubles victory together with a 6-1 win over Providence's Lauren Krise and Evangeline Vases. Sollazo also battled Bryant freshman Abi Ellison in a tightly contested singles match before falling 6-4, 1-6, 10-8 in a match tiebreak.
Caputi recorded her first collegiate victory in doubles alongside Chabria while also pushing Bryant senior Nicole Isman in a hard-fought singles match that was decided by a match tiebreak.
Junior Lilah Shallcross opened her fall season with a 6-1, 6-4 singles victory over Providence's Adelaide Games, while Remillard earned a 6-2, 7-5 win over Providence freshman Evangeline Vases for her first singles victory of the season.
Sophomore Iliana deArmas showcased the Skyhawks' competitive spirit with one of the day's most dramatic performances. After dropping the opening set 6-0, DeArmas stormed back to defeat Bryant senior Mika Sreenivas, 0-6, 6-1, 10-7. She also teamed with Sollazo for a 6-2 doubles victory over Sreenivas and Ellison.
Later in the day, DeArmas and freshman Elsa Seippel nearly completed a remarkable comeback against Holy Cross, rallying from a 2-5 deficit to force a tiebreak before falling, 7-5.
Making her collegiate debut, freshman Carlota Souto teamed with Shallcross and competed strongly against Providence's Games and Eidson before falling, 6-4, in a competitive doubles match.
