FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Stonehill volleyball team concluded the Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational after falling to Columbia in three sets on Saturday morning.
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
- Sophomore Haley Herndon led the Skyhawks offense with eight kills and a block assist.
- Sophomore Sam Loyd added six kills and five digs.
- Freshman Kaisa Dowd notched four kills in a service ace in two sets.
- Sophomore Kristi Bishop anchored the defense with seven digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Columbia wasted little time jumping out to the 1-0 match advantage winning the first set, 25-17. They continued their momentum hitting .550 as a team in the second frame to take the two-set lead claiming a 25-11 win.
Stonehill would not go away quietly. The Skyhawks built themselves a 3-0 lead in the third set with an ace by senior
Addy Frye and a pair of Lions attack errors. Freshman
Kaisa Dowd put the Skyhawks up two, 9-7, following up a kill with an ace and Stonehill was rolling.
However, the Lions continued to stick around and it became a back-and-forth match. After junior
Annabelle Svenson gave Stonehill the 13-12 lead with a kill, Columbia answered with an 8-1 run to take a 20-14 and earn the victory.

Stonehill returns to the court on Wednesday, September 30 when they travel to New Hampshire for a 6 p.m. tilt.
