ALBANY, N.Y. (September 3, 2026) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team came up just short Thursday night, falling 2-1 on the road to UAlbany at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium. With the result, the Skyhawks move to 0-3-3 overall, while the Great Danes improve to 1-4-0 on the season.
Highlights
- Stonehill registered a season-high 21 shot attempts, its most in a game since recording 22 against Chicago State in the 2025 season finale on Nov. 2, 2025.
- Five Skyhawks — Kayla Cassidy, Sadie O'Toole, Dani Lomuscio, Lindsey Brown and Meghan Dowd — played the full 90 minutes.
- Jenna Hamel recorded four saves in goal for the Skyhawks, increasing her season total to 24 saves.
- Cassidy scored her second goal of the season, bringing her season point total to five. The senior from Whitman, Mass., now ranks second in the NEC in both goals (2) and points (5).
How it Happened
UAlbany came out of the gates strong to open the first half, peppering Hamel and the Stonehill defense with three shot attempts within the opening seven minutes of action. At the 20:27 mark, the Great Danes broke through to open the scoring off a corner kick. Hamel stifled a low header from Sydney Kofton, but Oluchi Njoku buried the rebound to put UAlbany in front, 1-0.
Stonehill nearly leveled the score in the 36th minute following another corner kick. A series of pinballing headers between Brown,
Grace Fitzgerald and the Great Danes' back line ultimately stayed out of the net, keeping the Skyhawks at a one-goal deficit.
Just over a minute later, UAlbany doubled its advantage off another set piece, as Angie McLoughlin netted her first career goal. The two sides headed into halftime with Stonehill trailing, 2-0.
Coming out of the halftime break, the Skyhawks looked to chip into their two-goal deficit early. At the 53:21 mark, Brown had a point-blank opportunity following a corner kick, but her attempt was blocked away by the Great Danes' defense, keeping Stonehill off the board.
In the 80th minute, Stonehill was awarded a penalty kick at the 79:10 mark following a foul inside the 18-yard box on Lauren Villasin of UAlbany. Cassidy answered the call and stepped up to the spot, calmly converting the penalty kick for her second tally of the season and cutting the Great Danes' advantage in half.
Despite the late tally, the Skyhawks were unable to find the equalizer, as Stonehill fell on the road to UAlbany by a final score of 2-1.
