Boxscore
Easton, Mass.
- UMass-Lowell raced out to 17-6 lead less than
six minutes into the game and grew their lead to as many as 27 late
in the second half before settling for a 66-49 win over Stonehill
at Merkert Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.
Freshman Kyle Caiola led the River Hawks' offensive output with
a career-high 26 on an impressive 10-for-14 shooting including a
3-for-5 performance from behind the arc. As a team UMass-Lowell
connected on 10-of-19 three-pointers and held advantages in points
in the paint (28-18), points off of turnovers (17-8) and second
chance points (10-5).
With heavy ball pressure and an attacking scheme, the River
Hawks forced 16 Stonehill turnovers and attempted 14 more shots.
Down 35-18 at halftime, Stonehill never got closer than 14 the
rest of the way as UMass-Lowell used a 12-0 in the early stages of
the second half to put the game out of reach.
Caiola was the lone River Hawk in double figures but both Victor
Colon and Kevin Carr each contributed eight points.
Randall Stallworth (Toms River, N.J.) scored
all of his team-high 11 points in the second half but as a team the
Skyhawks struggled from the field making just 35 percent of their
shots.
A.J. Rudowitz (Monroe, N.J.) had nine points
for Stonehill while Colin Scanlon (Centreville,
Va.) chipped in with eight points and five rebounds.
Stonehill, now 4-1 on the season and 1-1 in Northeast-10 action,
returns to the hardwood on Sunday when they travel to Southern New
Hampshire for a 3:30 p.m. tipoff.
