67-43
Boxscore
Lowell, Mass. - UMass-Lowell scored the game's
first eight points and never looked back, building their lead to as
many as 29 in the second half before settling for a convincing
67-43 win over visiting Stonehill on Tuesday evening at Costello
Gymnasium.
The River Hawks forced 24 Skyhawk turnovers and held Stonehill
to several season lows in registering a season sweep by a combined
score of 133-92.
Stonehill, which has lost four of its last five games following
a ten-game winning streak, suffered its first loss on the road this
season after opening the campaign with eight straight wins away
from Merkert Gymnasium.
After the Skyhawks found themselves down by ten less than six
minutes into the game, they answered with a 10-1 run that got them
within one at 16-15 following a conventional three-point play by
Colin Scanlon (Centreville, Va.).
The hosts responded immediately with a blistering 16-0 run that
was only halted by a Matt Hall (Springfield,
Mass.) three-pointer to end the first half.
Down 32-18 at the half, Stonehill scored four of the first six
points of the second half but the River Hawks ran off 21 of the
next 25 points to blow the game open.
Stonehill shot a frigid 30 percent from the floor and struggled
from the free throw line where it shot 6-for-17.
After scoring 70+ points five times during their ten-game
winning streak the Skyhawks have failed to crack 50 points in
either of their last two games.
Lowell, meanwhile, shot 43 percent including 50 percent in the
second half despite making just two of its ten attempts from behind
the arc in the final 20 minutes.
Hall was the lone Skyhawk in double figures, netting 14 points
on 5-for-15 shooting.
Max Kerman went a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor for
UMass-Lowell on his way to a game-high 16 points and four rebounds.
Stonehill, now 17-6 overall and 12-6 in Northeast-10 play return
to action on Saturday when it faces Southern Connecticut in New
Haven.
