Panaro's hat trick leads Ravens past Skyhawks

RINDGE, N.H. (October 19, 2010) – Stonehill College was shut out 5-0 by host Franklin Pierce University in a Northeast-10 women's soccer matchup on Tuesday. The Ravens are currently ranked fourth in the East Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

Franklin Pierce junior Amanda Panaro (Rockland, Mass./Rockland) scored three times and added an assist, and junior Aya Noguchi (Tokyo, Japan/Jumonji) and freshman Jannice Sundqvist (Hamosand, Sweden/Lugnetgymnasiet Falun) each netted a goal to round out the scoring for the Ravens. Junior goalkeeper Jocelyn Leon (Lenox, Mass./Lenox Memorial) made three saves to earn the decision for Franklin Pierce, while freshmen Amy Wheaton (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) and Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) split time in the net for Stonehill.

Panaro knocked in a header in the seventh minute for her first goal of the day, and added a second score less than ten minutes later, set up in front of the net by freshman Margret Thorolfsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Verslunarskig). Panaro managed three more first-half shots, but none found the net, while Leon turned back attempts by Stonehill seniors Kirstie St. Martin (Providence, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) and Caitlin McEvily (New Rochelle, N.Y./The Ursuline School).

Following a slower start to the second half, the Ravens netted their final three goals in quick succession as Noguchi converted a free kick, Sundqvist buried a shot off a pass from Panaro, and Panaro notched her third of the day from the top of the box, during a nine-minute span beginning in the 72nd minute.

The Skyhawks fired off four shots in the final ten minutes against sophomore goalkeeper Casey Edward (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield), but were held scoreless for the final 5-0 deficit.

Stonehill (8-7-1, 6-6-1 NE-10) next visits Le Moyne College on Saturday at 1 p.m. Franklin Pierce (11-3-1, 9-3-1 NE-10) hosts #1 The College of Saint Rose on Saturday at noon.
