KISSIMMEE, Fla. (March 7,
2010) - Stonehill College opened its 2010 season with a
pair of shutout defeats while competing at the Rebel Spring Games
at the Osceola County Softball Complex today. The Skyhawks opened
with a 7-0 setback to Minnesota State University-Mankato in game
one, before falling 6-0 to LIU-C.W. Post, ranked 18th in
the NFCA Division II poll.
Junior Julie O'Neil (West
Des Moines, Iowa/Simpson/Valley) led Minnesota State past
Stonehill by hitting 2-for-2 with three RBI, while freshman
Lauryn Morris (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) was
2-for-3 with a stolen base, two runs scored and two RBI.
Freshman Courtney
McKelvoque (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley) and sophomore
Katie Kruse (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View)
combined for the four-hit shutout for the Mavericks. McKelvoque
picked up the win (3-1) in the circle, scattering three hits with
five strikeouts and no walks over four shutout innings.
Sophomore Lindsay Bock
(Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) was 1-for-2 for Stonehill, which
had four different players collect hits. Classmate Kaitlin
Andrews (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) took the loss (0-1),
allowing five earned runs on 11 hits with no walks and three
strikeouts over five innings.
Sophomore Kerry Fisher
(Barto, Pa./Boyertown) paced 18th-ranked C.W.
Post as she hit 2-for-4 with a double-triple and RBI. She broke the
game open with a two-run double in a three-run seventh.
Sarah Kiser (Arnold, Md./Cooper City) pitched the
shutout for the Pioneers, scattering four hits and two walks over
the seven innings with 12 strikeouts.
Freshman Courtney Marchand
(Dracut, Mass./Timberlane Regional) hit 1-for-3. Sophomore
Samantha Krantz (Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays)
took the loss (0-1), allowing the six earned runs on ten hits with
three strikeouts and two walks over seven innings.
Stonehill (0-2, 0-0 NE-10) is back
in action tomorrow for a pair of tough games against perennial
powers Lock Haven University (3 p.m.) and California University of
Pennsylvania (5 p.m.).
