Ireland wins 200-meter dash, while 4x800-meter relay win
DORCHESTER, Mass. (December 8, 2018) – The Stonehill College men's track and field program opened its 2018-19 indoor season with a pair of first place performances at the Howlin' Husky Invitational, hosted by Northeastern University, at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center this evening.
Junior Justin Ireland and senior Joe Connolly swept the top two positions in the 200-meter dash. To lead the way for Stonehill. Ireland won the event in a personal-best 22.31-seconds, while Connolly was second in 22.32.
Connolly also finished third in the 60-meter dash finals in 7.02-seconds, after qualifying fourth in 7.09-seconds. Sophomore Hampton Boyd placed tenth in the prelims in a personal-best 7.20-seconds. Boyd also finished fifth out of 15 entries in the 400-meter dash in 50.59-seconds, while junior Andrew Scarlotto placed ninth in 51.63-seconds.
Stonehill's 4x800-meter relay finished first in 7:59.22, just 0.30-seconds ahead of the University of Rhode Island (7:59.52). Running the event for the Skyhawks were freshman Evan Kennedy, sophomore Christopher Lanahan, sophomore Sean Conlan and junior Jeremy Breen.
Lanahan also led four Stonehill runners in the 1000-meter run, finishing fourth in a personal-best 2:35.15.
Scarlotto was also a member of Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay finished fourth in 3:26.22 – just three seconds off the pace set by first place Northeastern University (3:23.53.). Running for the Skyhawks were senior Daniel Madsen, Scarlotto and freshmen Anthony Magazzu and Jack Bowers.
Magazzu and Bowers also finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 500-meter dash. Magazzu recorded a time of 1:06.65, while Bowers finished in 1:06.98.

Senior Daniel Bomba took third in the pole vault, clearing a height of 12-feet, 9.50-inches.

Senior Larry Carney and junior Chris Gendron finished third and fourth, respectively in the 5000-meter run. Carney posted a time of 16:25.30, while Gendron finished in 16:30.38.
Senior Darren Shi placed fifth out of ten entries in the weight throw, posting a personal-best distance of 43-feet, 10.75-inches. Shi was also eighth in the shot put with a distance of 42-feet, 7.00-inches.
Senior Matthew Shaw paced five Stonehill runners in the one mile run with a fifth place finish in 4:25.63.
Sophomore Ethan Famiano finished eighth in the 60-meter high hurdles in 8.649-seconds after qualifying seventh in the field of 15 competitors in 8.65-seconds. Junior Colin Kuchachik placed tenth in the prelims in 8.87-seconds.
Stonehill will now be off for final exams and the holidays until after the New Year, when it competes at the Beantown Challenge at Harvard University on Saturday, January 12, at 11 a.m.
