EASTON, Mass. (April 16, 2025) – Graduate student
Abigail Larsson (Bayport, N.Y.) of the Stonehill College track and field team earned her first Northeast Conference Field Athlete of the Week nod of the season, the conference announced Wednesday.
Larsson was given the top honor for all field athletes in the conference this week after having her best performance in the pole vault this season, placing sixth overall at the UMass Commonwealth Invitational on Sunday, reaching a mark of 3.67m (12'0.5"), setting the top mark in the NEC this spring.
This was the first Field Athlete of the week nod for a Skyhawk this spring and the first for Larsson since February of 2024 when she won the same award after breaking the Stonehill program record in the indoor pole vault with a mark of 3.68m (12' 0.75"). That record-breaking mark was surpassed at New England Championships this March when graduate student
Lois Jones (London, England) eclipsed 3.76m (12' 4").
Larsson also earned her first NEC Prime Performer award of the season and is the lone Skyhawk to earn the honor of Field Athlete of the Week in both indoor and outdoor seasons this year. She joins freshman
Hannah Santos (Swansea, Mass.) and junior
Jordan Malloy (Colchester, Conn.) as NEC weekly award headliners this year. During the indoor season, Santos earned an NEC Rookie of the Week honor and Malloy was a two-time NEC Track Athlete of the Week honoree.
Larsson has carried over her strong indoor season into the spring, ranking atop the NEC leaderboard in the pole vault. She placed second at NEC Indoor Championships this past February, earning a spot on the All-NEC Second Team. Even so, her mark of 3.67m this past weekend is her best performance in both indoor and outdoor competition this year and the second-best mark of her career.
On the men's side, sophomore
Joseph Chesney (Cumberland, R.I.) and freshman
Miles Burr (Trenton, Maine) were named NEC Prime Performers. Chesney earns the first Prime Performer nod of his career while Burr earned the second of his young career.
Chesney had the second-best discus throw in the NEC this spring at UMass on Sunday, placing fifth with a personal record of 47.30m (155' 2"). He also placed 13th in the shot put with a throw of 13.81m (45' 3.75").
Burr earned his second Prime Performer in the past three weeks after recording the second-best 100-meter dash finish in the NEC, placing second at the UMass Commonwealth Invitational with a PR of 10.63 seconds. Burr notched another second-place finish in the 200-meter dash, recording the top time by a freshman in the NEC, fifth-fastest overall, at 21.68 seconds.
