Men's Track & Field Fourth after Day One of NE10 Indoor Championships

Men's 4000m DMR leads day one results with All-NE10 honors

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (February 16, 2019) – The Stonehill College men's track & field program picked up one All-Conference performance and qualified three more for Sunday finals in three different events on day one of the 2019 Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by American International College, a the Smith College Indoor Track facility today.

Stonehill earned All-NE10 honors with a third place finish in the 4000-meter distance medley relay in 10:12.02. Collecting All-Conference honors for their efforts were freshman Nickolas McNamee who ran the opening 1200-meter leg, before freshman Jack Bowers completed the 400-meter leg and then sophomore Christopher Lanahan ran the 800-meter leg before senior All-American Alex Demeule completed the one mile anchor leg.

Senior Joe Connolly and junior Justin Ireland each qualified for tomorrow's finals for the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes. Connolly posted the fastest 60-meter time in today's preliminary heats with a personal-best time of 6.98-seconds, while Ireland qualified third in the field of 24 sprinters in 7.04-seconds. Connolly qualified fourth-fastest in the 200-meter prelims in a personal-best matching 22.02-seconds, while Ireland qualified eighth out of 27 entries in 22.52-seconds. Sophomore Desmond Bernal placed 15th in the 60-meter prelims in a personal-best 7.23-seconds and 16th in the 200-meters at a personal-best 22.98.

Sophomore Ethan Famiano qualified for tomorrow's 60-meter hurdles final with the fourth-fastest time in today's preliminary heats in a personal-best 8.43-seconds. Junior Collin Kuchachik placed tenth in the field of 20 hurdlers in 8.76-seconds.

Stonehill sits in fourth place in the team standings after the first five events on day one with 13.50 points. Southern Connecticut State University leads the way with 86 points, followed by American International (30) and the University of New Haven (25).

Freshman Shane Braz scored four points for Stonehill with his fifth place finish, out of 23 runners, in the 5000-meter run in a personal-best 15:39.01 Sophomore Jeff Pichie placed 11th overall and second among the three Stonehill runners in the event in 16:05.84.

Senior Daniel Bomba earned 3.5 points for Stonehill with his fifth place finish out of 11 competitors in the pole vault, clearing a height of 13-feet, 0.25-inches.

Senior Darren Shi placed 12th in the weight throw with a distance of 43-feet, 5.75-inches. Freshman Robert Lisi placed 17th at 39-00.25.

The NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championships continue tomorrow at Smith College, when the field events start at 10 a.m., followed by the first track event at 10:30, after the men's heptathlon continues starting at 9 a.m.
