DMR Leads Men's Track & Field on Day One of New England Championships


Siaba is fifth in the heptathlon after the first day

Skyhawks relay finishes eighth, while Siaba sits fifth after day one of heptathlon

DORCHESTER, Mass. (January 31, 2020) – The Stonehill College men's 4000-meter distance medley relay led the list of performances for the Skyhawks on day one of the 2020 New England Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center today. 

Highlights

  • Stonehill's 4000-meter distance medley relay made its season debut and earned All-New England honors with an eighth place finish out of 14 entries in 10:22.36. Earning All-New England honors for the event were junior Chris McCaffrey, sophomore Anthony Magazzu, freshman Noah Drapeau and junior Kevin Wheelock. McCaffrey ran the opening 1000-meter leg in 3:11.5, followed by Magazzu with a 50.2-second 400-meter split and then Drapeau ran the 800-meter leg in 1:59.4, before Wheelock finished the mile anchor in 4:21.5. The Skyhawks were second among non-Division I entries, just 0.41-seconds behind Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern Connecticut State University (10:21.95).
  • Stonehill's DMR earned the Skyhawks a point in the team standings as they sit 14th at the Championships after the first day. University of Connecticut leads the way with 67.50 points, followed by the University of Rhode Island with 30 points.
  • Sophomore Michel-Ange Siaba is in fifth place out of 15 qualifiers after day one of the heptathlon. He compiled 2,601 points after the first four events – second among non-Division I athletes in the event. He picked up 700 points with his second place finish in the long jump as he cleared 21-feet, 4.25-inches. Siaba earned 772 points with a fifth place finish in the 60-meter dash in a personal-best 7.32-seconds, placing seventh in the high jump (5-feet, 9.25-inches) and sixth in the shot put (35-feet, 6.50-inches).

    Junior Ethan Famiano qualified for tomorrow's 60-meter high hurdles semifinals, placing 12th out of 30 entries in a season-best 8.45-seconds. He posted the third-fastest time among non-Division I competitors and took third in his section.

Other Results

  • Senior Jeff Pichie finished 15th out of 32 qualifiers in the 5000-meter run final, clocking in with a persona-best time of 15:18.12, while classmate Chris Gendron placed 20th in a personal-best 15:23.85.
  • Junior Christopher Lanahan finished 15th out of 25 competitors in the 800-meter run prelims with a time of 1:58.75. Sophomore Evan Kennedy placed 22nd in 2:00.22.
  • Freshman Cameron Bernard finished 19th out of 24 qualifiers for the long jump final, clearing a distance of 21-feet, 3.25-inches.
  • Freshman Jake Dwyer finished 27th in the 60-meter high hurdles prelims in 8.97-seconds. He also took 30th in the 60-meter dash prelims with a time of 7.41-seconds.
