Box Score 2 J Hartman totaled six RBI, swinging 4-for-7, in opening doubleheader
AUBURNDALE, Florida (March 6, 2020) – The Stonehill College softball team opened their season down in Florida, splitting their first doubleheader of the season, taking a 13-11 win over Clarion University and falling to Wheeling Jesuit University, 7-3, on Friday.
Game 1: Stonehill 13 – Clarion University 11

Key Moments:
Stonehill scored the first run of the game on Casey's single to right field scoring Genna Hartman from second, 1-0. The Golden Eagle responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame and both teams put up three in the second inning as Clarion led 5-4.
The Skyhawks then fought back in the top of the third with six runs off of five hits and two errors. The Skyhawks loaded the bases three times during the top half of the third inning and batted around the order to take a five-run lead, 10-5.
Rayner retired three-straight in the bottom of the third, before the Golden Eagles responded with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, 8-10. Stonehill then added three runs in the top of the fifth on back-to-back homeruns from Julia Hartman and Casey with one out, 13-8. Clarion was able to put up three more runs in the bottom of the frame, 13-11, as neither team threatened in the remaining innings.
This was the most runs put up by the Skyhawks since the 2016 season, when the Skyhawks defeated Saint Michael's College, 14-0.

Both teams jumped at the opportunity to put early runs on the board, as Wheeling Jesuit saw Brianna Grimes launch a three-run homerun with no outs in the top of the first. Stonehill connected on three hits from Julia Hartman, Bennett, and Azzato to answer and tie the game at three, 3-3.
The second and third innings saw both teams scoreless, stranding runners on base. In the top of the fourth inning, the Cardinals put another three runs on the board from three hits and two sacrifice flies for a 6-3 advantage.
Clarion retired seven-straight Skyhawks from the second to the fourth innings, as Stonehill got out of a jam leaving the bases loaded in the top of the fifth. After a threatening inning, the Skyhawks allowed an RBI single from Alisa Shelt with no outs to extend the Cardinals' lead to four, 7-3.
