KINGSTON, R.I. (January 15, 2022)- Patrick Garratt had a strong showing for Stonehill today as the sophomore took home first in the 3000-meter race and was one of five Skyhawks to finish within the top-10 at the Sorlien Memorial Invitational hosted by URI on Saturday.
Highlights:
- Garratt earned his first collegiate win in the 3,000-meter race by posting a blistering time of 8:53.10 which was a solid eight seconds ahead of second place. His time in the race also topped a previous career-high of 9:17.39 set back in April. Not far behind him was fellow Skyhawk, Colin Black who finished fourth with a time of 9:06.17.
- Jacob Pacheco had another strong outing when he placed sixth in the high jump with a mark of 1.86 meters. In the high jump this season, Pacheco has finished within the top-10 each time.
- Continuing in the field events, Cody DeAngelo set a new career-high in the pole vault at 4.20 meters for sixth place. DeAngelo topped his previous career-high of 4.00 meters set back in May 2021.
- In the long jump, Sean Theurer rounded out the top-10 finishes for Stonehill as he placed eighth in the long jump with a mark of 4.73 meters.
Other Performances:
- Robert Lisi led the throwers today with a top-20 finish in the weight throw (18th) with a toss of 12.72 meters. Right behind Lisi was teammate, Ethan Peck who had a throw of 12.69 meters. So far this season, both he and Lisi have finished within the top-20 each time they have competed in the weight throw event.
- In shot put, Michael Gozzo finished 24th while he set a new career-high with a throw of 11.85 meters which topped his previous best of 11.76 meters set last week at Harvard University. Lisi finished not far behind Gozzo (26th) with a toss of 11.57 meters.
- Ian Cann also set a new personal best tonight in his collegiate indoor debut after an eighth-place finish in the mile with a time of 4:27.90. Tonight also marked the first time he has competed in the mile collegiately as well.
