HOOKSETT, N.H. (April 18, 2022)- The Stonehill softball team traveled to Southern New Hampshire University for Northeast-10 Conference action and ended up splitting the two-game set with the Penmen when they took game one, 3-2, and dropped a tough second game, 1-2.

Game one: Stonehill 3, Southern New Hampshire 2

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • Southern New Hampshire took a quick 2-0 lead in the first that featured an Emily Carbonneau RBI single that pushed the Penmen lead to two.
  • However, after their strong first, Stonehill starter, Skylar Brandemarte shut down the Southern New Hampshire bats the rest of the way. Brandemarte did not allow another run and got out of multiple instances when the Penmen had a runner/runners on base.
  • Stonehill threatened in the third when they were able to load the bases after Paige Wodarski drew a walk after Adinolfi and Courtney Brochu had reached from walks of their own earlier. Southern New Hampshire starter, Leine McKechnie escaped the jam when she collected a strikeout to end the frame.
  • After a back and forth pitchers duel for most of the game, the Skyhawks broke things open with a three-run sixth to take a one-run lead (3-2). Hammond got the scoring started after she laid down a solid bunt that allowed Katelin Price to score. In the next at-bat, Weis laid down a bunt of her own that drove in Maeve Proulx. Weis' RBI marked the first of her collegiate career.
  • Adinolfi continued the Skyhawks' momentum when she hit a tough grounder to third and despite being thrown out, she recorded the eventual game-winning RBI that plated Hammond.
  • Brademarte finished things off as she retired the Penmen 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh and secured the 3-2 victory. With today's win, Brademarte is now on a five-game win streak and in that stretch has allowed an average of 1.8 runs and no more than two in four of those five outings. She also has fanned 16 batters in that span.

Pitching Records:

Win: Stonehill- Skylar Brandemarte (9-7)

Loss: Southern New Hampshire- Gwyn Hammond (6-4)

Game two: Stonehill 1, Southern New Hampshire 2

 Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • Just like game one, Southern New Hampshire struck first courtesy of a sacrifice fly from Bella Dickinson.
  • However, a couple of innings later in the third, Weis launched her first collegiate home run to left that evened things up at one.
  • After Stonehill tied the contest, starter, Kelly Mayette had a stretch in the fourth and fifth innings where she retired five straight batters that maintained the tie.
  • The Penmen however retook the lead in the sixth inning when Emily Carbonneau drove in the go-ahead run which made it 2-1.
  • Despite a two-out walk from Weis, Stonehill, unfortunately, could not capitalize and earned the split against Southern New Hampshire.

Pitching Records:

Win: Southern New Hampshire-Leine McKechnie (5-5)

Loss: Stonehill- Kelly Mayette (2-10)
