Game one: Stonehill 3, Franklin Pierce 2

Standout Performances

Key Moments:

  • After Franklin Pierce took an early 1-0 after one, Stonehill starter, Skylar Brandemarte, had a stretch of three scoreless innings including a point in the third when the Ravens had runners at second and third with two outs. Despite Franklin Pierce threatening to add to their lead, Brandemarte fanned the next batter to end the frame.
  • The Skyhawks had a chance to tie or take the lead in the bottom of the fourth when the purple and white loaded the bases after Megan Weis drew a walk with two outs. However, Franklin Pierce starter, Abby Poirot, ended the threat when retired the next batter.
  • Franklin Pierce tacked on another run in the top half of the fifth when Gina Hinckley hit a solo home run to center field which doubled their lead (2-0).
  • Going into the bottom of the seventh down two, Stonehill needed a big inning and that is exactly what the squad got. After three singles in a row from Chloe KellyMay Dawes, and Brochu, the Skyhawks had the bases loaded with no outs. Wodarski brought home the Skyhawks' first run after she drew a walk which made it 2-1.
  • Shannon Conte then drove in the tying run (2-2) after she ripped a single through the left side that scored Emily Nardelli who pinch ran for Dawes. With no outs and the bases still loaded, Hammond came up with the clutch single back up the middle that allowed Brochu to cross the plate for the Stonehill walk-off win.
  • Overall, on the day, Brandemarte had another strong outing as the freshman tossed her 18th complete game (second in the NE10) and fanned seven to bring her total to 94. Currently, she ranks within the top 10 of the conference (eighth) in terms of strikeouts.
