Men's Outdoor Track and Field Competes At UMass Lowell Invitational

LOWELL, Mass. (March 24, 2023)- The Stonehill College men's track and field team kicked off their outdoor portion of its season with the UMass Lowell Invitational that saw multiple Skyhawks notch top five finishes Friday afternoon.

Highlights

  • Solomon King started the outdoor season on a high note as he grabbed first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.82 seconds which is currently the fastes time in the Northeast Conference. King also competed in the long jump for the first time in his collegiate career and came in 10th with a leap of 6.17 meters (20'3"). 
  • Shea Drugan was the squads other top finisher on the day as the sophomore set a new personal record in the 200-meter dash at 21.94 seconds. Drugan also partook in the 100-meter dash where he set another career best (10.96 seconds) when he came in third place.
  • In the 400-meter hurdles, Andrew Morin ended up in second with a time of 58.47 seconds and is the top time in the NEC.
  • For field events, Jacob Pacheco and Cody DeAngelo had top five finishes in the pole vault led by Pacheco's second place leap of 4.35 meters (14' 3.25") and DeAngelo came in right behind in third at 4.20 meters (13' 9.25"). Pacheco also had a top 10 performance in the high jump when he came in seventh at 1.71 meters.

Other Performances

  • Along with Drugan's top spot in the 200-meter dash, the Skyhawks took four of the top 15 spots highlighted by Ryan LaveryZachary Ofurum, and John Paulhamus in second, 10th, and 11th place respectively. Lavery's time of 22.86 seconds marked a new career-best and Ofurum crossed the line at 23.40 seconds and Paulhamus' time was 23.42 seconds.
  • In his collegiate outdoor track and field debut, Levi Wurster had a solid performance highlighted by his fourth place finish in the triple jump at 12.05 meters and he also posted a 17th place mark in long jump (5.82 meters). Tyler McNair also took part in the long jump and ended up a few spots ahead of Wurster at 5.89 meters (15th place).
  • After King and Drugan grabbed top five spots in the 100-meter dash, Paulhamus had a top finish in the race at 11.32 seconds which marked a new personal record. Currently, Stonehill has the NEC's top three spots for fastest times in the 100-meter (King, Drugan, and Paulhamus). Rounding out the top-20 for the Skyhawks in the race was Pacheco in 16th place (11.46 seconds).
  • The 800-meter run saw three runners earn spots within the top-10 highlighted by Louis Warner's fifth place time of 2:01.27 and right behind was Thomas Forde at 2:02.47. A few spots later was David DiPietro in ninth at 2:06.11 in outdoor track and field debut.
  • Casey Ivester and Jackson Domingo both had top 20 marks in the 400-meter run at 54.64 seconds and 56.72 seconds at 13th and 18th place respectively.
  • Aidan Byrne and Patrick Garratt each had top 15 finishes in the 3000 meter run led by Byrne's time of 8:53.04 (ninth place) followed by Garratt's time of 8:59.99 (15th place).
  • The Purple and White took four spots within the top 20 of shotput led by Michael Gozzo's throw of 12.27 meters followed by Jonathan Scampoli in 17th (12.22 meters). Right behind Scampoli was Tyler Thomas at 18th (12.01 meters) and Eli Grover rounded out the top 20 in 20th (11.58 meters).
  • Chris Cox took part in the hammer throw and had a top 15 finish (14th) when he had a toss of 42.55 meters.

Stonehill will have two weeks off before their next event at the Holy Thursday Meet hosted by Merrimack College on Thursday, April 6.
