Men's Track and Field Compete At Holy Cross Invitational

WORCESTER, Mass. (April 22, 2023)- The Stonehill College men's track and field team had many strong performances at the Holy Cross Invitational coming in seventh with 24.50 points.

The University of Rhode Island took the top spot with 184 points followed by UMass Amherst at 90 points. Rounding out the top five at Saturday's meet was Central Connecticut (83.50 points), Maine (82.50 points), and finally hosts Holy Cross (79 points). 

Highlights

  • Jacob Pacheco and Cody DeAngelo both had strong performances in pole vault as the two Skyhawks grabbed spots within the top five. Pacheco led the way in third place at 4.50 meters (14' 9.25"). Meanwhile, DeAngelo finished a couple of spots back in fifth with a height of 4.25 meters (13' 11.25") which is now the seventh-best mark in the Northeast Conference
  • Solomon King posted two top-10 finishes Saturday led by his performance in the 400-meter dash. In the race, King grabbed second place with a time of 48.94 seconds which marked a new career-best for the junior who is currently ranked sixth in the conference. Meanwhile, in the long jump, King had a leap of 6.10 meters (20' 0.25") for sixth place.
  • Parker Hagen grabbed a spot in the top five for triple jump when he had a leap of 12.68 meters (41' 7.25"). 

Other Performances

  • In the 5,000-meter run, Stonehill saw three runners finish within the top 10 highlighted by Colin Black's fourth-place finish with a time of 15:13.13. Right behind Black was Patrick Garratt in fifth (15:19.42) and finally in seventh (15:27.82) was Jace Hollenbach.
  • Along with King in the long jump, two other Skyhawks earned spots in the top 10 including a Levi Wurster mark of 5.87 meters (19' 3") and then Tyler McNair in ninth at 5.64 meters (18' 6"). 
  • Chris Cox led the way in the hammer throw with a finish within the top 10 (10th) with a toss of 43.25 meters (141' 11"). 
  • Jake Dwyer had a top 10 finish of his own (10th) in the 110-meter hurdles when the senior crossed the finish line in 17.37 seconds. 
  • In discus, Stonehill saw both Eli Grover and Michael Gozzo finish within the top 15 led by Grover's 11th place throw of 39.74 meters (130' 5") which was a new personal record and 14th best in the NEC. Gozzo's toss of 38.18 (125' 3") gave him 13th place.
  • Also competing in the 400-meter dash with King were Louis WarnerCasey Ivester, and Thomas Forde who finished in 10th (52.27 seconds), 14th (54.64 seconds), and 15h (54.91 seconds) respectively. Warner and Forde's times both marked a new career-best for the two runners.
  • Three Skyhawks represented the squad in shotput led by Cox's personal-best throw 12.37 meters (40' 7") which was good for 12th. Two more throwers finished within the top 15 including Gozzo's toss of 11.74 meters (38' 6.25") for 14th place and Grover in 15th place at 11.51 meters (37' 9.25"). 
  • In the 100-meter dash, four runners crossed the finish line within the top 20 highlighted by John Paulhamus' mark of 11.14 seconds and just a few spots later was Patrick Morin at 11.29 seconds (16th). Rounding out the top 20 for Stonehill was Zachary Ofurum in 17th (11.37 seconds) and Ryan Lavery (11.46 seconds) in 20th place. 
  • Paulhamus and Ofurum each notched top 20 finishes in the 200-meter dash led by Paulhamus' time of 22.63 seconds (13th) and Ofurum's shortly after at 22.84 seconds (20th). 
  • Jason McGettrick partook in the 1,500 run with a time of 4:36.52 for 24th place. 
  • Connor Hughes led the way in the 800-meter dash at 1:57.57 for 14th place. Jackson Domingo finsihed later in the race at 2:04.75 (22nd) and finally, David DiPietro grabbed 25th (2:05.70).
