NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (April 6, 2023)- The Stonehill College men's track and field team represented well at Thursday's Merrimack College Track Carnival as multiple Skyhawks notched top-five finishes at today's meet.
Highlights
- Stonehill dominated the 5,000-meter run as the Skyhawks took the first six spots led by Patrick Garratt's personal-best time of 15:12.65. Garrat's impressive time now has him ranked sixth in the Northeast Conference for the fastest time in the event. Rounding out the next five spots for Stonehill were Colin Black (15:18.50), Reilly Johnston (15:21.59), Jace Hollenbach (15:25.99), Aidan Byrne (15:30.01), and finally Nicholas Cozzolino (15:31.13). Johnston and Cozzolino each set new career bests with their times in Thursday's meet.
- Andrew Morin led the squad in the 400-meter hurdles as the junior took home first place in the event with a time of 59.40 seconds.
- Jacob Pacheco had a solid day in his field events with his two second-place finishes in javelin and high jump. In javelin, Pacheco had a toss of 51.78 meters (169' 10") and for high jump, he had a leap of 1.80 meters (5' 10.75").
Other Performances
- In the 200-meter dash, Stonehill took four spots within the top 20 led by Solomon King's time of 21.66 seconds in second place. Right behind King was Shea Drugan who set a personal record with a time of 21.90 seconds which is the fifth fastest time in the conference right behind King's time from today's meet. Zachary Ofurum took 17th place when he crossed the finish line at 23.32 seconds in 17th place and rounding out the top 20 was Patrick Morin in 20th at 23.49 seconds.
- Stonehill competed in two relay events (400-meter and 1,600-meter) and in each event, the Purple and White had top 10 finishes. In the 400-meter, the first relay team which consisted of Nate Skopas, Shea Drugan, Ofurm, and Solomon King finished in second place at 41.94 seconds. The Skyhawks' other relay team of John Paulhamus, Ryan Lavery, Tyler McNair, and Patrick Morin came in sixth at 43.75 seconds. In the 1,600-meter relay, the group of Thomas Forde, Connor Hughes, David DiPietro, and Andrew Morin finished in 6th place at 3:35.89.
- Louis Warner and DiPietro came in 10th (1:59.54) and 11th (2:01.53) place respectively in the 800-meter dash.
- Patrick Morin led the Purple and White in the 100-meter dash with his time of 11.43 seconds (ninth place) which marked a new personal best for the freshman. Not far behind Morin was Ofurm in 13th place (11.54 seconds).
- The Skyhawks also had two runners place within top 15 in the 400-meter run led by Paulhamus' 11th place finish at 53.01 seconds and Lavery was not far behind in 12th place (53.55 seconds). Lavery's time marked a new career-best for the freshman runner which is the 19th fastest time in the NEC.
- In long jump, Stonehill had a strong performance led by King's leap of 6.37 meters (20 10.75") in fourth place, and a few spots behind him was Levi Wurster at 5.82 meters (19' 1.25") in 10th and right behind Wurster was McNair at 5.79 meters (19 0").
- Jason McGettrick represented Stonehill in the mile as he posted a new personal record with a time of 4:54.39 (22nd place).
- Stonehill saw three student-athletes finish within the top 15 for discus as Eli Grover led the way with a throw of 37.56 meters (123' 0") which marked a new career-high and is the 12th best in the NEC. Michael Gozzo finished one spot behind Grover at 39.53 meters (130' 5"). Rounding out the top-15 for the Skyhawks was Tyler Thomas who had a toss of 32.28 meters (105' 11").
- Jonathan Scampoli posted two top 10 finishes in both the hammer throw and shotput. In shotput, Scampoli had a throw of 12.77 meters (41 10.75") for fourth place. Gozzo also partook in shotput and came in seventh at 12.30 meters (40' 4.25"). Scampoli's other top 10 mark was in the hammer throw where he set a new personal record at 35.91 meters (117' 9") for eighth place.
- Cody DeAngelo notched a top 10 mark in pole vault with his sixth place finish at 4.05 meters (13' 3.5").
