Stonehill Finishes Final Day At NEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (May 7, 2023)- The Stonehill College men's track and field team concluded its last day at the Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships as the Skyhawks notched an ninth place finish (36 points). 

Wagner won the 2023 NEC Outdoor Championships with 165 points followed by Central Connecticut (151 points), Saint Francis (134 points), Merrimack (98 points), and Sacred Heart (68 points) rounded out the top five.

Highlights

  • Jacob Pacheco was the top point-getter on Sunday (six points) as the sophomore took third place in javelin with a personal best toss of 57.91 meters (190' 0"). 
  • Cody DeAngelo had a strong day in the pole vault with his top five finish (fourth) at 4.50 meters (14' 9.25") which marked a new career-high. Pacheco also grabbed a point in the event in eighth place at 4.30 meters (14' 1.25"). 
  • Solomon King earned points in both finals of his events Sunday. His highest point event was in the 200-meter when he crossed the finished line in fourth place (21.64 seconds) for five points. Later, in the 100-meter, King earned a sixth place finish (10.78 seconds) and earned three points.
  • In both the 4x100 meter and 4x400 meter relays, the Purple and White combined for four points. The 4x100 relay led the way with three points for a sixth place finish (42.05 seconds) and in the relay, Stonehill had John PaulhamusShea DruganZachary Ofurum, and King represent the squad. Meanwhile, in the 4x400 meter, the Skyhawks came in eighth place (3:26.25) for one point led by Andrew Morin, Ofurum, Ryan Lavery, and Paulhamus. 
  • With their most runners in the 5,000 meter, Stonehill saw two runners earn points in Sunday's race. Patrick Garratt paced the squad with two points when he finished in seventh (15:25.74). Right beind him was Colin Black with a time of 15:28.88 that earned the Skyhawks one point.
  • Connor Hughes grabbed one point Sunday in the 1500 meter finals as the junior came in eighth at 4:02.48.

Other Performances

  • Parker Hagen and Levi Wurster represented the Skyhawks in the triple jump. Hagen paced Stonehill with a ninth place leap of 13.41 meters (44' 0") whereas Wurster came in 18th at 11.86 meters (38' 11"). 
  • Stonehill had two throwers in the discus that included Eli Grover and Michael Gozzo. Grover finished in 16th place with a toss of 37.91 meters (124' 5") and behind him was Gozzo at 27.66 meters (123' 7").
  • Also representing the Skyhawks in the 5,000 meter, were Johnston, Hollenbach, and Nicholas Cozzolino who finsihed in 12th (15:52.57), 16th (15:59.60), and 23rd (16:30.51) place respectively. 
  • Hollenbach was also in the 1,500 meter final with Hughes and he crossed the finish line in ninth place at 4:02.52.
