Stonehill Saddened by Passing of Football Hall of Famer Dan Gamache, '95

Family Announces Arrangements, College to Hold Moment of Silence Prior to Saturday Football Game

EASTON, Mass. (October 1, 2024) - Stonehill College is saddened to learn of the passing of football alum Dan Gamache, Class of 1995, who was inducted into the College's Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014.

Gamache was an impact player on the defensive line for the Stonehill football program, which enjoyed four winning seasons during his career while the program was still in its varsity era's infancy. He remains the program's all-time leader in sacks with 34.0 over 37 career games, including a program-record 14 as a senior. He earned All-Eastern Collegiate Football Conference honors over his career, also being named the ECFC Lineman of hte Year as a junior before serving as captain his senior year.

Gamache most recently worked for East Street Capital as a Senior Wholesale Account Executive. A colleague described him as a "fun-loving, charismatic, and just overall great guy." Dan worked in the mortgage industry for nearly 30 years.

Gamache played four years at Stonehill and still holds the program's career and single-season sacks records.

Gamache is survived by his daughters Amber and Ava and by their mother, Laura Pizzuti of Lynnfield, Massachusetts, whom he was married to for 23 years. He was the cherished son of Mary Ellen Gamache (MacFarlane) and the late George Gamache. Beloved brother of Andrew Gamache and wife Molly of Natick, Anne Finnegan and husband Dave of Richmond, Virginia, and Mary Abplanalp and husband Jon of Walpole. He was a loving uncle to Timothy, William, Nicholas, Grace, Sam, and Tommy; and on the Pizzuti side of his family he was a favorite uncle to Laura, Julia, Jenna, Christina, Ashley, Johnny, Sienna and Xander; all of whom he loved dearly. Dan was nephew to Elizabeth Gamache of Worcester, William and Susan Gamache of Concord, New Hampshre, Anne and Don Albino of Atlanta, Georgia and Janet MacFarlane of Dartmouth, Massachusetts. 

Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating Dan's life at McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield, MA on Friday, October 4 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption, 758 Salem Street, Lynnfield, MA on Saturday, October 5 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be private.

Stonehill will observe a moment of silence in remembrance of Gamache prior to Saturday's football game against Wagner College at W.B. Mason Stadium at 1 p.m.
