EASTON, Mass. (December 30, 2024) – Freshman
Hermann Koffi (Quebec City, Quebec) was named Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week for the first time this season, the league announced Monday.
Koffi has played an integral role in Stonehill's best non-conference performance as a Division I program. The Skyhawks have already doubled last season's win total and surpassed their previous-best mark of four wins in non-conference play from the 2022-23 season.
Stonehill won its non-conference finale on Sunday, defeating Lafayette College, 70-65, in Easton, Pa., at the Kirby Sports Center. The Skyhawks improved to 8-7 on the year and currently sit in third place in the NEC. In the win, Koffi scored 13 points on 4-8 shooting from the field while going 2-5 from deep. He also went 3-4 from the free throw line and corralled four rebounds in 32 minutes on the court.
Koffi currently ranks third in the NEC in minutes played this year, leading the Skyhawks with 32.3 per game. He ranks 25th in the conference but third out of all freshmen in the league, averaging 9.0 points per game.
The freshman from Quebec City, Canada, has made 11 consecutive starts, a stretch that Stonehill is 7-4 in. Koffi currently leads the team in field goal percentage, shooting 50.5% from the field this season. His 24 made three-pointers rank second on the squad.
Stonehill's win at Lafayette on Sunday marked its first win on the road since Feb. 4, 2023, breaking a 28-game road losing streak. Stonehill is one of just three teams in the NEC to finish with a winning record in non-conference play, joining Central Connecticut State (9-4) and Wagner (8-5).
Stonehill men's basketball opens Northeast Conference play on Friday, Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. at Owen McCormick Court in Erie, Pa. as the Skyhawks take on the NEC's newest member, Mercyhurst.
