Box Score LORETTO, Pa. (February 10, 2024) – Stonehill men's basketball dropped a Northeast conference matchup at DeGol Arena as Saint Francis University won the first of two regular-season games, 72-63.
LEADERS
- Freshman Louie Semona (Cincinnati, Ohio) led Stonehill in scoring for the second game in a row, netting 13 points on 50% (6-12) shooting from the field. He also tallied one steal and one block.
- Fifth-year Pano Pavlidis (Queens, N.Y.) grabbed seven boards to lead the Skyhawks on the glass.
- Bobby Rosenberger was the game's leading scorer, putting up 22 points on 8-15 shooting while Aaron Talbert went 5-7 from three and 8-11 from the field to score 21 for the Red Flash. Rosenberger also had nine rebounds for Saint Francis, a game-high mark.
FIRST HALF
- The Red Flash scored the first five points of the game before a Semona three-pointer got Stonehill on the board. The game remained close for the early stages of the first half as Pavlidis knocked down a three-pointer of his own to pull the Skyhawks within one point, 13-12.
- Saint Francis would take a 25-14 lead with 7:00 left in the first half as the Red Flash knocked down three straight shots from deep to fuel a 12-2 run.
- Stonehill answered with a 9-0 run of their own after grad student Max Zegarowski (South Hamilton, Mass.) and sophomore Tony Felder (Brockton, Mass.) sank a pair of threes.
- Zegarowski hit a jumper with a little over a minute left in the first half to trim Saint Francis's lead to 29-25 going into the half.
SECOND HALF
- Through the first 11:30 of the second half, the teams exchanged baskets with both teams scoring 22 points as the Red Flash held onto a four-point lead, 51-47.
- Despite the Skyhawks keeping it close, Saint Francis began to pull away as the Red Flash knocked down seven of their next nine shots to spur a 19-5 run as SFU led 70-52 with 2:35 left on the clock.
- Stonehill ended the game on an 11-2 run, but it was too late as the Red Flash closed out the conference win, 72-63.
NOTEWORTHY
- Stonehill falls to 1-2 all-time against Saint Francis as both teams are undefeated at home after splitting the regular season series a year ago.
- Semona scored a career-high 13 points and is averaging 9.3 points per game off the bench over his last three games.
- Senior Jackson Benigni (East Hampton, Conn.) led the Skyhawks with five assists, setting a new career-high.
