STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (February 19, 2024) – Senior Solomon King (Norwood, Mass.) won both the 60m and 200m dash finals, breaking his own school records in both events to earn Most Outstanding Track Performer (sprints) as the men's track and field team completed the Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Ocean Breeze Sports Complex.
Overall the Skyhawks finished the two-day event with 92.5 points to place third while the Wagner men won, scoring 163 points with Central Connecticut following close behind in second place with 156 points.
FIELD EVENTS
- In the pole vault, senior Cody DeAngelo (Old Saybrook, Conn.) came in a tie for seventh place reaching a height of 4.20m (13' 9.25") to notch one point toward the Skyhawks team score.
- Junior Parker Hagen (Newport, R.I.) set a career-best mark in the triple jump finals, placing fourth to score five points for the Skyhawks with a leap of 13.87m (45' 6").
- Freshman Christopher Gill (Malden, Mass.) broke the freshman school record, for the second time this season, in the shot put finals, placing fourth and earning five points with a toss of 14.74m (48' 4.25").
TRACK EVENTS
- In the 60m hurdles finals freshman Ean Hynes (Newburyport, Mass.) finished in 8.44 seconds to place fourth, setting a new personal record and scoring another five points for the Skyhawks.
- King's record-breaking time of 6.78 seconds in the 60m dash was just short of the NEC Indoor Championship record of 6.77 seconds as he finished in first place to tally 10 points.
- King also won the 200m race, breaking his own school record for the second time this season as he finished the race in 21.02 seconds.
- Junior Shea Drugan (Westfield, Mass.). placed sixth in the 200m dash, notching three points toward the Skyhawk team score with a time of 22.05 seconds.
- In the 500m dash finals, junior Louis Warner (Kinderhook, N.Y.) placed third with a personal best time of 1:05.00 while senior Andrew Morin (Beverly, Mass.) finished sixth, also recording a new personal record of 1:06.60 as the duo combined for nine points.
- Freshman Matthew Malora (Harrington Park, N.J.) placed seventh in the 800m finals, crossing the finish line in 1:56.78.
- A pair of Skyhawks placed in the top five of the 1-mile race as freshman Brendan Wilder (Waltham, Mass) came in fourth, and senior Connor Hughes (Melrose, Mass.) came in fifth with personal best times of 4:14.08 and 4:14.62
- In the 5000m race, both senior Colin Black (Hopedale, Mass.) and freshman Dylan Brilliant (Plymouth, Mass.) set new personal records as Black finished in fourth while Brilliant came in seventh place,
- The team of Wilder, Morin, Hughes and fifth-year Reilly Johnston (Providence, R.I) combined for a time of 10:09.93 to place third in the 4000m distance medley relay race.
- In the final event of the weekend, the 4x400m relay team of freshman Jon Dougherty (Reading, Mass.), Drugan, Warner, and King placed second as King anchored the squad, recording the fastest split of all the runners in the event to catapult the team to a second-place finish.
