BOSTON, Mass. (April 18, 2024) – The Stonehill College Softball team took on a ranked opponent for the first time since moving up to Division I, dropping a road matchup at No. 23 Boston University on Thursday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Terriers led off the game with a double off the center field wall, sparking a five-run first inning highlighted by a bases-clearing double with the bags loaded.

Boston University put up another five runs in the third inning with a two-run single and a two-run double as the Terriers took a 10-0 lead into the fourth inning.

Freshman Harper Sullivan (Glendale, Ariz.) got the Skyhawks on the board in the top of the fourth, ripping a single into left centerfield to score pinch-runner, junior Emily Nardelli (North Attleboro, Mass.).

A sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the fourth gave BU an 11-1 lead as the Terriers closed out the game in the fifth inning to win their 10th straight game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Sullivan and redshirt sophomore May Dawes (Beacon Falls, Conn.) recorded the lone hits for the Skyhawks on Thursday with Sullivan tallying the only run batted in.
• Sullivan also picked up the loss in the circle, dropping to 2-3 on the season.
• BU starter, Kasey Ricard, improved to 18-3 on the season, throwing a complete game with six strikeouts.
• The Skyhawks played their fifth game in three days, earning five days off as the team is on a bye this weekend in conference play.

• Stonehill softball is off this weekend, returning to action next Wednesday at Fr. Gartland Field in Easton, Mass. for a non-conference doubleheader against UMass Lowell beginning at 3 p.m.
