EASTON, Mass. (September 18, 2024) – Stonehill College men's ice hockey senior defender
Cam Mannion has been accepted into the Engaged Athlete Fellowship, a groundbreaking leadership program for student-athletes run by a nonpartisan nonprofit called The Team. This unique leadership program aims to empower a diverse class of 38 motivated student-athletes to strengthen nonpartisan civic participation on their teams, their campuses, and their broader communities.
Mannion, a business management major, is a Stonehill Team IMPACT fellow. He collaborates with the athletic department to facilitate signing day events and raise awareness across campus. He is charged with thinking collaboratively and creatively to support the development of Team IMPACT on the Stonehill campus, engage with the community, and educate to promote program participation.
Recently, Mannion organized with the Stonehill Athletic Department and current Team IMPACT signees for various teams to participate in a photo day, promoting Stonehill's student-athletes with their Team IMPACT teammates and the organization.
A requirement of Mannion's for the program is a yearlong project, in which the Dorchester, Mass., native is planning a field day for the spring for kids with chronic illnesses and disabilities, run by the student-athletes at Stonehill, with tons of fun activities and games.
Mannion, a defender on the ice and contributor off, has appeared in 44 games over his previous three seasons as a member of the Stonehill men's hockey program. Last season, Mannion was recognized with an Everything College Hockey Sponge of the Week Award after blocking seven shots in the Skyhawks' first-ever NCAA Division I victory against Lindenwood University on February 10, 2024.
Stonehill opens its 2024-25 campaign on Sunday, October 6, traveling to nearby North Andover, Mass., to take on Merrimack College at 4 p.m. The Skyhawks will then make their home debut against Union College on Friday, October 11, with puck drop between Stonehill and the Garnet Chargers set for 7 p.m., inside the Bridgewater Ice Arena.
