EASTON, Mass. (January 7, 2025) – Freshman
Hermann Koffi (Quebec City, Quebec) was named Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week, the league announced Tuesday.
Koffi earned the nod as Rookie of the Week from the NEC after a pair of strong performances to start conference play for the Skyhawks.
Stonehill men's basketball opened its NEC slate with a 1-1 record after falling to Mercyhurst, 76-69, on the road before coming back from a 14-point second-half deficit to defeat Saint Francis, 64-60, at DeGol Arena. Sunday's victory was Stonehill's first win on the road in conference play since Feb. 4, 2023, at Saint Francis Brooklyn and the Skyhawks' first-ever win at Saint Francis.
Koffi put up double-digit scoring efforts in both games
as he tallied 12 points and four rebounds in 34 minutes at Mercyhurst before notching a team and career-high 17 points on a 6-11 shooting performance in the 14-point comeback victory at Saint Francis. Koffi tallied a career-high four three-pointers made on eight attempts to go with five rebounds and one assist in 35 minutes against the Red Flash.
Koffi has started 13 straight games, a stretch the Skyhawks are 8-5 in, and Sunday's game at Saint Francis was his first time leading Stonehill in the scoring column this season. The freshman from Quebec City, Quebec, has scored in double figures in eight games this season, including the past three. Over the last three games, Koffi has averaged 14.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 34.0 minutes per game.
In his first season as a Skyhawk, Koffi ranks fourth on the team in scoring at 9.6ppg for the season. His 9.6ppg ranks 20th in the conference and is first out of all freshmen in the NEC. His 32.6 minutes per game this season ranks third in the NEC and leads Stonehill.
Koffi's 50.4% shooting percentage from the field on the season ranks second on the team, while his 39.0% clip from long range is fourth-best on the team. His 30-made threes and 1.8-made threes per game rank sixth in the NEC.
The NEC's leading rebounder and seventh-leading scorer, sophomore
Todd Brogna (Southborough, Mass.), earned his fourth NEC Prime Performer nod of the season in this week's edition of weekly awards from the conference. Brogna's 6.4 rebounds per game is tied for the top mark in the conference while his 12.4 points per game is tied for seventh. In Friday's loss at Mercyhurst, Brogna led Stonehill in scoring with 19 points on a 7 for 13 shooting performance to go with six rebounds. In Sunday's win at Saint Francis, Brogna recorded his second career double-double as he tallied 11 points, 13 rebounds, two steals, and two assists in 34 minutes.
