Stone’s 43-Save Shutout Secures Weekend Sweep for Skyhawks

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (October 18, 2025) – Led by senior netminder Eve Stone, who turned aside all 43 shots she faced in a stellar shutout performance, the Stonehill College women's hockey team capped off a weekend sweep of Sacred Heart University with a 2-0 victory Saturday afternoon at Bridgewater Ice Arena. With the win, the Skyhawks improved to 2-3-0 overall and 2-1-0 in NEWHA play, while the Pioneers dropped to 2-4-0 overall and 1-3-0 in conference action.

Highlights
  • Senior Maddi Achtyl found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season — all coming within the last two games.
  • Senior Gracie Sacca tallied her second goal and first assist of the year, while classmate Bailey Feeney added her third assist of the weekend series.
  • Sophomore Reagan Whynot earned her first assist of the season on Sacca's empty-net goal in the third period.
  • Stone's 43-save shutout marked the seventh clean sheet of her career and first of the season.
  • Senior Jillian Petruno recorded a season-high 46 saves in goal for Sacred Heart.

How It Happened
Stonehill came out of the gates strong, outshooting the Pioneers 22-5 over the first 20 minutes of regulation. Throughout the opening frame, the Skyhawks registered their first power-play goal of the season when Achtyl, who recorded her first career hat trick the night before, lit the lamp on her fourth goal of the weekend series off a feed from Feeney and Sacca.

After taking a 1-0 lead into the first intermission, Stonehill held firm on the defensive end of the ice while continuing to outshoot Sacred Heart 15-10 throughout the middle frame, maintaining a one-goal advantage after 40 minutes of play.

Following an early power-play chance in the third for the Skyhawks, the Pioneers drew a pair of penalties in quick succession, creating a 5-on-3 skater advantage for Sacred Heart. Despite being two skaters down for 76 seconds, the Stonehill penalty kill unit — backed by Stone — stood tall, stifling the Pioneers' chances and preserving the one-goal lead with just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation.

Flipping the script in the third, Sacred Heart outshot Stonehill 28-11, but Stone denied every puck that came her way to maintain the Skyhawks' lead before Sacca sealed the 2-0 triumph with an empty-net goal in the final three seconds of play.
