Baseball Drops Series Finale at FIU, 12-2

MIAMI, Fla. (February 17, 2025) – The Stonehill College baseball team dropped its four-game series finale to Florida Internation University, 12-2, Monday afternoon in Miami, Florida. With the loss, the Skyhawks fell to 0-4 on the season, while the Panthers improved to 4-0.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Senior Sam Parks and sophomore Aidan Sengenberger led the Skyhawks with two hits apiece, increasing their team-leading total to five and six hits through four games on the young campaign.
  • Sophomore Grayson Sparr and junior Aidan Cohall each launched their second home runs of the season.
  • Sophomore Justin Tullish made his first career start on the mound and struck out three batters over 2.2 innings of work.
  • Seniors Brylan West and Javier Crespo paved the way for the FIU offensive output, combining to drive home seven of the team's 12 runs on the day.
  • Senior Alex Ulloa and freshman Marc Hersh added extra-base hits of their own for the Panthers.
  • Redshirt junior Jarek Woodward notched his first win on the mound for FIU after allowing just one run over 4.0 innings of work while striking out three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first inning, Florida International took control in the bottom of the second, scoring three runs. The Panthers capitalized on a two-run double by West and a sacrifice infield groundout from senior Hector Candelas.

FIU continued its offensive surge in the third, adding three more runs to extend their lead to 6-0. However, in the top of the fourth, Stonehill's Cohall responded by launching his second home run of the series to straightaway center field, narrowing the Skyhawks' deficit to five.

In the bottom of the fourth, FIU regained its six-run advantage as Crespo's single up the middle brought in another run, maintaining the Panthers' lead at 7-1.

Stonehill responded again in the top of the sixth, as Sparr delivered a solo home run—his second round-tripper in as many days—cutting the gap to five. With two outs and behind in the count, 0-1, Sparr sent an opposite-field shot over the right-field fence, marking the seventh home run of the series for the Skyhawks.

Despite Stonehill's efforts, FIU regained control, tacking on five more runs in the final three innings. Key contributions came from West and Crespo, who hit home runs in the seventh and eighth innings, respectively. This offensive surge sealed the Panthers' 12-2 victory.
