EASTON, Mass. (March 16, 2025) – Sophomore forward
Anthony Galante and junior defender
Evan Orr have been named to the NCAA Division I Independent All-Star Team, as selected by the five independent head coaches.
The NCAA Division I Independent Hockey group consists of five teams that compete outside of conference play: the University of Alaska, University of Alaska Anchorage, Lindenwood University, Long Island University, and Stonehill College.
This recognition marks the first-ever end-of-year honors selected by the five NCAA Division I Independent hockey programs. The selection of Galante and Orr to the All-Star Team represents the first such accolade for Stonehill during its DI era, and the first overall since
Matthew Schoen '20,
Cameron Wright '20, and
Brendan Nehmer '23 were honored with Northeast-10 (NE10) All-Conference Awards following the 2019-20 season.
Galante, a semifinalist for the 73rd Walter Brown Award, earned his spot on the DI Independent All-Star Team by leading the Skyhawks offensively with 22 points, including 13 goals and nine assists. His point total set a new DI-era single-season program record for Stonehill, surpassing junior captain
Frank Ireland's previous mark of 18 points, set during the 2023-24 campaign. The Morganville, New Jersey native, also tied for the team lead with four power-play goals and contributed two game-winning goals throughout the season.
Orr, who was named the NCAA Division I Independent Player of the Month for January, concluded the year with a career-high 15 points, including eight goals and seven assists. His eight goals ranked second on the team, five behind the team-leading Galante. The blue-liner also scored five game-winning goals, including three overtime winners, one of which secured the Skyhawks' historic first-ever win over an NCAA Division I ranked opponent, a 3-2 victory over No. 9 UMass Lowell on January 18. In addition to his offensive contributions, the Shelby Township, Michigan native led the team with 49 blocked shots, ranking second in program history for blocked shots in a single season.
Stonehill finished the season with a program-record 12 wins, marking a 10-win improvement over the previous season. The Skyhawks went 7-7 on home ice, and of their 12 total victories, 10 came against Division I opponents—a nine-win improvement from the previous year. On the road, the Skyhawks secured five Division I wins, the most in program history, with victories over Merrimack, Lake Superior, UMass Lowell, and LIU.
