EASTON, Mass. (April 25, 2025) – The Stonehill College baseball team swept its series opening doubleheader to Delaware State Friday afternoon at Lou Gorman Field, as the Skyhawks took game one, 16-3, before earning the doubleheader sweep with a 15-3 triumph in game two. With the decisions, Stonehill improved to 14-23 overall and 13-7 in conference play, while the Hornets dropped to 4-30 overall and 3-20 against conference opponents.
GAME ONE: Stonehill 16 (13-23, 12-7 NEC), Delaware State 3 (4-29, 3-19 NEC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first inning from both teams, Delaware State opened the scoring with a run in the top of the second. Stonehill quickly responded, as graduate student
Jack Thorbahn launched a leadoff solo home run to even the score at 1-1.
The Skyhawks took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the third inning and never looked back, scoring 15 runs over the next four innings while limiting the Hornets to just two. Sophomore
Grayson Sparr gave Stonehill the lead with a deep sacrifice fly to center field, allowing junior
Aidan Cohall to tag up and score.
Stonehill's offensive explosion in the fourth and fifth innings was highlighted by a standout performance from Cohall, who drove in four runs with a bases-clearing double and an RBI single. The sophomore tandem of
Ryan LeClair and
Eisig Chin each contributed RBI extra-base hits, while senior
Dylan Zemotel added a run-scoring single.
Although Delaware State added a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh innings, it wasn't enough to mount a comeback as Stonehill secured a dominant 16-3 victory in game one after seven innings.

- Thorbahn belted his team-leading and second-best in the NEC 11th homerun of the season.
- Freshman Sam Gettinger registered his first collegiate hit, while Chin tallied his first career double.
- Cohall and junior Sean McGee fueled the Skyhawks offensive output, combining to go 4-for-7, with a double, five runs scored, and six RBI throughout game one.
- Junior Jimmy Gilleran earned his fifth win of the season after holding the Hornets to one earned run over 6.0 innings of work.
- Senior Sebastian Paz led Delaware State at the dish in game one, going 3-for-4 with a double and one run scored.
GAME TWO: Stonehill 15 (14-23, 13-7 NEC), Delaware State 3 (4-30, 3-20 NEC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stonehill wasted no time establishing an early lead in game two. After a scoreless first inning and a half, the Skyhawks broke through in the bottom of the second with two runs. Thorbahn and sophomore
Aidan Sengenberger opened the frame with back-to-back singles, followed by a walk drawn by senior
Taylor Gaspar to load the bases.
Junior
Michael Rickert and LeClair then delivered consecutive sacrifice flies, driving in a pair and giving Stonehill a 2-0 lead. Freshman starting pitcher
Hunter Bell kept the momentum going, retiring the Hornets in order in the top of the third.
The Skyhawks extended their lead in the bottom half of the third. McGee launched a leadoff home run to left, followed by a double from Cohall into the left-center gap. After consecutive walks drawn by Sparr and Sengenberger, Cohall crossed the plate on a passed ball to push the lead to 4-0.
McGee stayed hot at the plate, blasting his second home run in as many innings in the bottom of the fourth to make it 5-0. The offense kept rolling in the fifth, when LeClair cleared the bases with a three-run double. Senior
Sam Parks followed with an RBI triple to right-center, extending Stonehill's advantage even further.
Delaware State responded with a three-run top of the sixth, sparked by an RBI double from freshman
Carter Boyd, and run-scoring singles from junior
Jabril Bullock and redshirt freshman
Justin Batts.
However, that would be as close as the Hornets would get to leveling the score. Stonehill added two runs in the seventh and capped off the scoring in the eighth with a grand slam off the bat of Cohall, sealing a dominant 15-3 win and completing the doubleheader sweep.
