HOW IT HAPPENED
Stonehill wasted no time establishing control, sending 13 batters to the plate and scoring nine runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Skyhawks' early offensive explosion was highlighted by two-run singles from Parks and Thorbahn, along with RBI singles by Cohall and LeClair.
Delaware State chipped away at the deficit over the next two innings, cutting Stonehill's lead to 9-6 by the end of the top of the third. A two-run single from junior
Jabril Bullock, a solo home run by graduate student
Brady Daniels, and a pair of fielding miscues fueled the Hornets' six-run surge across the second and third innings.
Stonehill extended its lead in the bottom of the third, with Cohall driving in two runs on a single up the middle. Delaware State answered with a run in the top of the fourth to remain within striking distance. However, the Skyhawks broke the game wide open with an 11-run outburst in the bottom of the fourth, pushing their advantage to 22-7. The inning was fueled by nine free passes, a solo home run by Thorbahn, a two-run double from Cohall, and a pair of wild pitches.
Stonehill capped off its scoring in the bottom of the fifth with three home runs from Sparr, Chin, and Rader. Sparr launched a two-run shot following a leadoff single by freshman
Sam Gettinger, before Chin and Rader hit back-to-back home runs to complete the Skyhawks' offensive onslaught.
Although Delaware State plated three runs in the top of the sixth, the deficit proved insurmountable as Stonehill secured a decisive 26-10 victory to close out the three-game weekend sweep.
