McGee's Third Multi-Homerun Game Leads Baseball Past Merrimack in Midweek Tilt

EASTON, Mass. (April 29, 2025) – Junior Sean McGee's third multi-homerun game of the season helped lead the Stonehill College baseball team to a decisive 18-5 win over non-conference opponent Merrimack College Tuesday afternoon at Lou Gorman Field. With the win, the Skyhawks improved to 16-23 overall, while the Warriors dropped to 13-29-1 on the season.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Stonehill's 18 runs mark the 13th time this season that the Skyhawks have posted a double-digit run total, improving their season total to an NEC-leading 314 runs scored throughout the campaign.
  • McGee paved the way for the Skyhawks at the dish, going 2-for-5 with four runs scored, two homeruns, and five runs batted in. The junior shortstop's two round-trippers marked his third multi-homerun third game of the season as he improved his season total to nine homeruns.
  • Graduate student Jack Thorbahn belted his conference-leading 13th homerun, while sophomore Aidan Sengenberger launched his fourth of the year.
  • Junior Aidan Cohall continued his outstanding stretch at the dish, going a perfect 3-for-3 on the day with two doubles, two runs scored, and three RBI.
  • Sophomore Ryan LeClair extended his on-base streak to 15 straight games after finishing the day going 3-for-4 with a double, a stolen base, and four runs scored.
  • Sophomore Justin Tullish earned his first collegiate win after holding the Warriors to four earned runs over 4.0 innings of work, where he struck out two.
  • Graduate student Harry Painter led Merrimack with two hits on the afternoon, while freshman Matt DeShiro drove home three of the Warriors' five runs throughout the non-conference bout.
  • Junior James Borsari struck out a game-high three batters over 2.0 innings in the start on the mound for Merrimack.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After Merrimack jumped out to a quick four-run lead in the top of the first, Stonehill responded immediately, trimming the deficit to 4-3 heading into the second inning. Fueling the Skyhawks' early comeback was a two-run home run from McGee and an RBI single by Sengenberger.

In the bottom of the second, following a clean three-up, three-down inning that included two strikeouts from Tullish on the mound, Stonehill took its first lead of the game with one swing. McGee struck again, belting his second home run in as many innings.

Merrimack answered quickly in the third when Deshiro helped sophomore Andrew Heffernan score from third with a groundout to senior Dylan Zemotel, leveling the game at 5-5.

Undeterred, Stonehill's offense exploded in the bottom of the third, driving in six runs to seize an 11-5 lead. The outburst was highlighted by two-run base knocks from sophomore Grayson Sparr and Thorbahn, a bases-loaded hit by pitch drawn by Cohall, and another RBI single from Sengenberger.

The Skyhawks bullpen then took over as senior Max Brulport, freshman Mason Hebert, and junior Adam Martin combined to allow just one hit and one walk over the final three innings, shutting down the Merrimack offense.

Meanwhile, Stonehill continued to pile on runs, adding seven more to cap off a dominant 18-5 victory. A two-run double from Cohall, a coordinated double steal executed by senior Sam Parks and LeClair, and back-to-back home runs in the sixth from Thorbahn and Sengenberger rounded out the Skyhawks' scoring.
