LeClair Homers Twice, Baseball Drops Series Finale at UMES

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (March 15, 2026) – The Stonehill College baseball team dropped its series finale Sunday afternoon to Maryland Eastern Shore, 9-6. With the result, the Skyhawks fell to 3-12 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the Hawks improved to 2-14 overall and 1-5 against conference opponents.

Highlights
  • Junior Ryan LeClair recorded his first career multi-home run game, going 2-for-4 with two home runs, two runs scored, and two runs batted in.
  • Sophomore Will Newton blasted his first collegiate home run and extended his hitting streak to nine games. Graduate student Sam Parks also pushed his hitting streak to nine games after going 1-for-4 on the day.
  • Junior Jamison Howland finished 2-for-4 with a run scored, while senior Sean McGee recorded his team-leading fourth double of the season and extended his hitting streak to eight games.
  • On the mound, senior Jake Lanzer and sophomores Josh Florence and Alex Cook combined for 5.0 innings of scoreless relief, totaling five strikeouts.

How It Happened
Stonehill wasted little time getting the scoring started as the Skyhawks jumped out to a three-run lead just three batters into the contest. Parks led off the game with a single through the right side before Newton launched a two-run home run over the left field wall. LeClair immediately followed Newton's blast with a solo shot of his own to left field.

Stonehill added to its lead later in the inning with an RBI double down the left field line from McGee, followed by an RBI groundout from senior Michael Rickert that allowed junior John Bureau to race home after reaching earlier in the frame with a single to center field.

The Skyhawks extended their advantage in the second inning when LeClair struck again, belting his second home run of the game and giving Stonehill a 6-0 lead. However, Maryland Eastern Shore answered in the bottom half of the inning, plating five runs to cut the Skyhawks' lead to 6-5.

Over the next six innings, both pitching staffs settled in as the game turned into a pitcher's duel. The breakthrough came in the bottom of the eighth inning when Ansel Carson launched a grand slam to give the Hawks a late three-run lead heading into the ninth.

Following the eighth-inning rally, Stonehill was unable to mount a comeback in the final frame, falling to Maryland Eastern Shore by a final score of 9–6 in the weekend finale.
