Baseball Erupts for 20 Runs in Series-Clinching Win Over CCSU

EASTON, Mass. (March 29, 2026) – The Stonehill College baseball team closed out its weekend series in dominant fashion, defeating NEC rival Central Connecticut State University, 20-5, in seven innings on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Skyhawks improved to 9-14 overall and 7-2 in conference play, while the Blue Devils dropped to 6-11 overall and 5-7 against league opponents.

Highlights
  • Graduate student Sam Parks extended both his hitting and on-base streaks to 17 games, finishing 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBI, a walk, and a double.
  • Juniors Ryan LeClair and Nathan Kearney pushed their on-base streaks to 18 and 17 games, respectively. LeClair was hit by three pitches, matching his own Division I program record set on March 8, 2025, against High Point.
  • Freshman Kacin Robinson drove in a career-high four runs, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and a pair of walks.
  • Junior Jamison Howland delivered a career performance with seven RBI, one shy of the Division I program record set by Jack Thorbahn '25 (eight RBI vs. Bryant on March 12, 2024).
  • Senior Adam Martin started on the mound, allowing two earned runs on four hits and two walks over 3.1 innings while striking out three.
  • Senior Jake Lanzer earned his first win of the season, tossing 1.2 innings of scoreless relief with three strikeouts.

How It Happened
Central Connecticut State struck first with a run in the top of the opening inning, but Stonehill responded emphatically, erupting for six runs in the bottom half to seize early control of the series finale. After senior Michael Rickert, LeClair, and Kearney all reached via walk or hit-by-pitch, Howland lifted a deep fly ball to center that was dropped, allowing all three runners to score. Junior Nick Lundquist followed with an RBI single to right, and Parks added a two-run single to push the lead to 6-1 after one.

Stonehill added another in the second on an RBI groundout from Robinson, extending the lead to 7-1. After the Blue Devils trimmed the deficit to four in the fourth, the Skyhawks answered right back with two more runs in the bottom half, aided by a pair of defensive miscues, including a dropped fly ball that allowed Rickert to score and an errant pickoff that brought Kearney home, making it 9-3.

The Skyhawks broke the game open in the fifth with a five-run inning. Following an error, a single, and a walk to load the bases, LeClair was hit by a pitch to force in a run. Robinson and Howland then delivered back-to-back two-run singles to extend the lead to 14-3.

After a two-run triple by Antonio Ducatelli in the sixth, Stonehill continued its offensive onslaught with six more runs in the bottom half. RBI singles from Rickert and Kearney, along with a bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch, highlighted the inning as the lead ballooned.

Sophomore Josh Florence closed the door in the seventh, striking out two to secure the 20-5 run-rule victory and clinch the series win for the Skyhawks.
