How It Happened
Stonehill wasted little time jumping out in front, plating three runs in the top of the first inning. Parks led off with a walk to extend his on-base streak to 18 games and moved into scoring position with his third stolen base of the season. Rickert followed with an RBI single to right, and two batters later, Kearney launched his first collegiate home run to give the Skyhawks a 3-0 lead.
Stonehill added to its advantage in the second, as Rickert delivered again with a two-run blast, scoring freshman
Armanis Romero, who reached on an infield single to open the frame.
After a scoreless third, Delaware State broke through with its first run. However, Lang quickly settled back in, striking out six of his next 11 batters and limiting the Hornets the rest of the way.
The Skyhawks continued to build their lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth, along with two more in the sixth. A pair of passed balls allowed Parks and Romero to score, while a sacrifice fly from Rickert and an RBI double by Robinson contributed to the surge.
Stonehill put the game out of reach in the seventh, scoring four more runs. Robinson launched his first career home run to drive in Howland, while Parks added an RBI and Rickert chipped in with a sacrifice fly, extending the lead to 13-1.
Although Carter Boyd connected for a solo home run in the bottom half, the Skyhawks' lead held firm as Stonehill secured a 13-2, seven-inning victory to open the weekend series.
