How It Happened
Holy Cross struck first in the home half of the opening inning, as CJ Egrie came around to score after drawing a leadoff walk. Stonehill threatened to respond in the second but stranded the bases loaded.
The Skyhawks evened the score in the third when LeClair delivered an RBI double to the left-center gap, scoring Howland. Holy Cross answered right back in the bottom half to regain a 2-1 lead.
Stonehill took its first lead in the fourth, scoring twice. After junior
Nick Lundquist singled and both Parks and Howland reached, LeClair came through again with a two-run double to left-center, plating Lundquist and Parks to give the Skyhawks a 3-2 edge.
Following a key escape by Lang in the fourth, Stonehill added two more runs in the fifth to extend its lead to 5-2. The Crusaders threatened in both the fifth and sixth, loading the bases in each inning, but seniors
Adam Martin and
Jake Lanzer worked out of trouble to preserve the advantage.
Holy Cross finally broke through in the eighth, capitalizing on early defensive miscues before RBI base knocks from Alex Sandell and John LaFleur tied the game at five.
After Stonehill was held scoreless in the ninth, the Crusaders completed the comeback in the bottom half, as Braden Connors delivered a walk-off single to hand the Skyhawks a tough defeat.
