- The Stonehill women's tennis continued their
impressive run this season, winning their 13th straight
match, this one an 8-1 decision over the Le Moyne Dolphins on
Thursday afternoon.
With the win the Skyhawks, ranked second in the east region,
improved to 16-2 overall and finished play in the Northeast-10 with
a perfect 12-0 record for just the second time in school
history. The team is also one victory away from matching the
program's record for most wins in a season (17), set in 2006.
Against Le Moyne, Stonehill once again took control in doubles
action as the No. 1 doubles tandem of sophomore Linsdey
Herchel (Hampden, Mass.) and freshman Amy
Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I.) won 8-3. The Skyhawks also
won at No. 2 doubles 8-4 and No. 3 doubles 8-6.
In singles action Stonehill got straight set victories from
Toegemann, freshmen Leah White (East Walpole,
Mass.) and Sarah Hickey (Lee, Mass.) and
sophomores Caitlin Ryan (Medfield, Mass.) and
Emily Broderick (Middlebury, Conn.).
Stonehill concludes regular season play when they play host to
Queens (N.Y.), ranked fifth in the east region, on Wednesday at
3:00 p.m.
